Improving the daily grind?

So, I have been thinking.

Currently I have finished The Flit, Labyrinth of Tigers, waiting with Shuttered Palace and Forgotten Quarter until I have higher stats (for bold/buccaneering approach, etc., base stats 96/77/144/97) and focusing on mostly getting favours via many opportunity cards (I have the means to do many per day)/turning them in for renown (lvl 10-15 with all) until I have to turn them in for profit/let conflict cards happen, eventually lacking the items.

I also have a 1.95 EPA option from an exceptional story (giving Romantic Notions and some Appalling secrets) if I don’t know where to spend leftover actions, otherwise I do social actions for stat improvement. Ratwork Velocipede (though the cards annoy), The Gift done (for the Affiliation/Docks favour card), Cheesemonger Agent lvl 1 for the card to farm 3 faction’s favours. Many +5 equipment pieces for all stats, 4600E in items. Can become POSI with 2 actions or so.

Now, how can I improve this further? Exceptional stories with unique items/cards to improve my deck/arsenal? Go for POSI for a specific reason before I’m done with the available content? Go on as I currently do for an easy time with upcoming content?

I’d really love to hear your thoughts and knowledge on this. Thank you.

The most important thing you can do at this stage is unlock all the areas such as the Shuttered Palace and Mahogany Hall, as well as POSI areas such as Wilmot’s End by completing the basic tutorial grinds there. This is so that you can raise stats as fast as possible. With high enough stats, Echoes and progress will come naturally.

If you haven’t finished the University storyline (the murder of the Senior Reader) already, then you can exploit it to solve multiple issues. Once you start the investigation, trade cryptic clues with the porters to get whispered hints, sudden insights, and investigation progress. At the Lodgings, trade sudden insights to get the fastest rate of Watchful possible, as high as the max base 200 if you want. The investigation progress can be traded at the Heights of Chicanery option at the Flit, by repeatedly raiding message drops to give yourself enough cryptic clues to sustain the loop. The whispered hints you will inevitably accumulate can be used to fund Forgotten Quarter expeditions, buy a Premise at the Bazaar lodging straight from the Bazaar tab, or be converted into Appalling Secrets to hasten Seeking progress or be turned into items. This grind will take several weeks, but is the fastest way to obtain max Watchful. If this storyline is finished, however, the option will be locked and you will have to grind Watchful the normal way.

If you decide to become a POSI, your first goal is to get a ship to explore the Unterzee. A reward for becoming a new POSI is found in &quotA Rainbow of Offerings&quot, if you pick the &quotGoing Over the Spoils&quot option, it will give you most of what you need to get a ship. Do not worry about getting a fancy ship, as those grinds will take forever for new POSIs, just focus on getting the affordable Rusty Tramp Steamer.

For Renown purposes, it is useful to increase the following factions to 10+: Church, Great Game, Hell, Society being the most important.

If you purely want Echoes, the fastest possible grind at your level is continuously do expeditions at the Forgotten Quarter for the Tomb of the Silken Thread. Dock favors are the cheapest option, but if you have savings, you can buy Strong-Backed Labour at the POSI area, the Bazaar Sidestreets, and still get a profit. Only attempt this if you can reach Watchful 160 or higher, otherwise, just focus on obtaining stats or grinding items to sell.

I haven’t even finished the Tomb of the Seven, so that’s good to know. I just sold a good bunch of Extraordinary Implications and passphrases (that I upconverted when duelling) to get the Smock for the +10 Watchful. As I also just received a mood card, the bold approach option was at 97%. Immediately cleared 2x Tomb of the Silken Thread (with exactly 0 AP left), at level 3 now, so I only need to gather up more supplies again and clear that, then start with the Watchful grind.

I have most factions at 10+ renown, several at 15+, so not really turning those favors into profit, except docks, as I have many opportunity cards for them. For next up will be the Watchful grind, then POSI, then make use of whatever options become available.

Just to wait for the next mood card now. Thank you.

A game-changing Fate-Locked story is The Empress’ Shadow. It adds the Finishing School, which refreshes your cards and has a 50% chance to give you a favor.
Another one is the Soul Trade. If you become a Soul Shepherd, you get a card that wipes all your menaces and gives 12-15 favors (Church, Society, Constables).

Becoming POSI increases your echoes and opportunities exponentially, and adds grinds, locations etc, so go for it. In the meantime, enjoy the stories.
