Would anyone be interested in attempting something along the lines of the Noman’s Friend Loss data thread?
Currently, there is a formula dictating how many echoes can be lost and gained from Bringing the celebtraion home on the Tower of Sparrows card::
Currently, we also have no idea what this formula is. Considering the branch requires 40 echoes, it’s possible with low watchful that you might be able to lose 40 echoes, or that with watchful 300, gain 40 echoes. We simply just don’t know.
There’s been an attempt to find out the formula in the comments section of the above wiki page, but the same kind of spirit that’s being given to the Noman’s Friend thread would really help out here.
If you want to help, the best way you could do this is just pick a level of watchful, your highest or how low you can manage with a talkative rattus faber, stick with it, post with your Watchful and change in Pennies, and edit your post if you do the card again. You could list your MW gain as well if you wanted. edited by Cecil on 1/23/2016
Ha. Luckily in all of my making waves to draw Slowcake and giving away Notablity this season I’ve saved up a bunch of Nights on the Town. I’ll join in the record keeping when I next see it. Query: are there any result formulas which depend on Airs of London?
Do we only care about echoes, then? That’s a shame; I’ve sometimes arranged Nights on the Town then spent them back on this, to try and increase my Making Waves. It seems that I’ve gained more often than lost, and I’d be interested in seeing whether we could pin down more definitively how this is determined. (The card doesn’t say, after all, exactly what part of our gains is affected by high Watchful.) The only problem is that one needs to find out exactly what the increase has been; I’ve checked by going to the Honey-Dens of Veilgarden before and after, but I don’t suppose it’s something I can do all the time.
Watchful 192, lost 11.94 echoes and gained 16 CPs of Making Waves (from 9 5/10 to 11; a net loss, having spent 20 CPs for the Night on the Town).
EDIT: Is there any way to know whether one’s total amount of echoes affects the result? Is it only main qualities that affect certain rewards in the game, or are there rewards that are calculated as percentages of other things, like number of items owned? edited by The Duke of Waltham on 1/23/2016

Updated the first post to include a request for MW, I thought I put something in there about MW! Sorry!

It’s possible, the easiest way to test this would be to do it when you’ve only got 40 echoes, turn all your echoes into connection items and see if you notice a difference, connection items are best because they convert 62.5>60 (or something) nicely.
This will be significantly more frustrating to document now that this card no longer loops (so sad about this change btw) but I’ll bookmark the thread & report back next time the card comes up

I’m afraid I don’t understand what you mean about connection items, but I was planning to buy a University fellowship anyway, so I did.
I’ve tried this now for the first time: 40 echoes exactly and 131 Watchful have gained me 18.21 echoes and 28 CPs of Making Waves (from 16 1/17 to 17 12/18), a net gain of 8. I’ll probably be listing future results in this post for convenience.
Fresh attempt at 40 echoes exactly and 165 (156+9) Watchful: I have gained 8.15 echoes and 13 CPs of Making Waves (from 11 8/12 to 12 9/13), a net loss of 7. Unfortunately I didn’t think to try it at 131 Watchful again, which would have eliminated another potential variable. edited by The Duke of Waltham on 2/17/2016
For example. Get 20 results when you have W220 and 1040 echoes, then buy 16 Bright Brass Skulls (Diaries of the Dead and Rookery Passwords also work) to put yourself at 40 echoes (the minimum for the branch), then when you want echoes again, selling your connection items you’ve only lost 4% of your liquidated wealth.
Watchful 184: +1290d, MW 11>12. It looks like both money and MW are random.
Watchful 154: -400d, MW 16>17. Didn’t equip my Watchful gear this time.
Watchful 186: -2706d, MW 19>20
