Um, just wanted to let you guys know I’m going on a betrayal spree on the weekend. I’ll try not to hit anyone on the “please don’t betray” list but, ahem, nothing personal really. I’m afraid I don’t even have a good excuse, since it’s something like “I like expensive things and space bat people so much I can’t control myself”.
I don’t mind if anyone betrays me back and I guess you can add me to a list of really horrible betrayers or something!
(and frankly come on, losing few cp of MW is not something to get mad at, especially since you’ll probably get a ton from consigning your confessions)
Actually, the character who betrayed my two alts wouldn’t have been able to find my alts if they didn’t look at general list, as these are characters who I just use for RPing purposes in plots involving a select few other players; thus their profiles are set to private. So this person must be part of the percentage of the player-base who uses the forum for lists. However, I did not see them sign up for any of the lists themselves. So they just used the lists to make requests and then betray people, it seems, without opening themselves up for reciprocal action. Clever, albeit inconsiderate.
I’m sure there’ll always be anomalies; it’s not as if anything we do could stop someone behaving like this. Most people used the system as intended. Anyway, my point is that I was only hit by unexpected betrayal from someone who already subverted the system, so I don’t expect someone like that to respect a "don’t betray" list either. Maybe such a list would even be tempting to some.
The list isn’t intended to stop people from behaving like that. People who are fully comfortable in using the betrayal options have no need for this thread, and I’m not trying to discourage them from using the action in the way FBG probably intended it to be used. The purpose of the thread is to give people who are not comfortable betraying others a way to do so without feeling guilty about it. The target audience of this thread are the sorts of people who will definitely respect the Do Not Betray list.

Bah. I just used all of my MW for a level of Notablity so your (not) "sudden but inevitable" betrayal would have knocked me a level! But I appreciate the notice.
Fortunately the Alt I got a level of Notability for doesn’t have trust with Danko but there are 30 people who haven’t chosen what to do with that trust. I’ll just have to do some item conversions and hope to get their MW high enough to protect themselves.
Hey, I’m not a monster, so if anyone for any reason doesn’t want to be betrayed, just respond here or drop me a message anyhow. I feel terribly evil already anyway.
Betrayals are a legitimate part of Hallowmas and I doubt if everybody who confessed to you reads the forums.
For myself I was just making sure that a reduction in MW (or a scandal increase) would not lead any of my characters into losing Notability or going to the Tomb Colonies. I really have no permanent hard feelings towards those who choose to betray people. edited by reveurciel on 11/6/2015
Likewise - no hard feelings when I get betrayed back, or even betrayed after trusting. I actually welcome it when it has a cheeky bit of text included. Saving the text of betrayers for future RP openings, actually. It’s all fun.

Sorry if I was unclear about that. :)
Ah, okay. :) I’m probably going to put a little disclaimer next to the Do Not Betray list next year to make sure that everyone knows that being listed there won’t necessarily stop all betrayals. I think everybody ends up getting at least a couple betrayals out of the blue.

People who put themselves on the feel-free to betray list aren’t getting them unexpectedly, i hope, but otherwise yes. I know i didn’t get any more betrayals than i expected, and probably got less.
I think next year we would benefit from having 2 lists:
People who warn others that they would really appreciate not to be betrayed;
People who warn others that they are going to betray some or all confessions they get.
That should help with avoiding any confusion regarding the betrayals.
Mea culpa, on my part, as someone who publically complained to you, Dansko - it was meant more in jest than annoyance but upon rereading, I see it came over much more serious than intended! Thank you for the non-betrayal, nevertheless.

Please, Parelle, you have nothing to worry about. I would not want any harm to come the way of such a fine lady.
I do find it most amusing how social actions of Fallen London are governed by an entirely community-made etiquette. And everyone is just so polite and courteous to each other, while being impolite is probably the worst crime you can commit.
Let me just say that it is absolutely lovely, and not something I’ve been used to in my harsh northern life at all.
I’ve been avoiding social actions for the whole year I’ve been playing and now I’m thinking I might have been wrong about that. This community really feels unique.
As a new PoSI with zero notability it seems betrayal would not be a problem, so I offer myself up for betrayal for those to whom I gave my confession.
BTW I like the combined list idea. Something like:
Name | Desired request | Days | Betrayal preference | Dupe or Poison preference
Murdstone | Pride or Whimsey | Any day | open to mutual | a corresponding Dupe or Poison would be helpful
Edit: note the above "a corresponding Dupe or Poison would be helpful" is just for illustration purposes. I currently don’t need any.
