I couldn’t see a thread open for this, and didn’t want to clutter the main with it, but I want to brag about finally getting my snazzy new Lance. Hopefully others also want to share their tales of Hallowmas success, and congratulate others. Come and lets us bask in collective self satisfaction!
Who else has completed their primary goals this year? And having done so, what are your plans for the rest of the festival? I’ll still be grinding notability for a bit, as I very much would like Lydia to be at peace. If I somehow can get three more confessions after that, I’ll try for this years ‘prestige’ companion, but as aristocratic felines go she hardly seems a patch on my beloved tigress. Failing that, a shiny certificate might be nice. edited by Amsfield on 11/2/2017
I’ve got Lance. Companions are kinda useless and i am sick of notability grind. Not sure what to do with my 5 confessions.
Also got 2 candles for 7 confessions.
I really like that FBG allowed new players to get replacement for Waxwall Knife. But overall i am exhausted and not very satisfied with Hallowmas. edited by Waterpls on 11/2/2017

Congrats on the lance! I’ll admit the companions this year weren’t quite as enticing as last years. I imagine the novelty of the concept of upgrading them is part of it, as is the artwork. The Feducci options do seem to be the more appealing, and feel as though they were more of the creative focus, which makes sense as this is guaranteed one time only. I expect some people are very excited by the option to lose your record, given the complaints about it I’ve seen pop up.
In a way I think they have actually made the notability grind less important this year, which is nice, as with 13 free confessions and increasing the value of earlier confessions by allowing easy exchange to the higher tier, most players should be able to achieve their major goals. More debatable is the fact they have added enough potential goals that only very end game players are likely to get everything possible, which on one hand can de-emphasise the grind if you accept you can’t have it all, but intensifies it if you still want to shoot for everything.
On track with the self congratulation, I happen to have just got the card I needed to give my favorite nun piece of mind, which is lovely. Anything else I achieve now is gravy. edited by Amsfield on 11/2/2017
I’m actually quite anxious for it to be over. Not because I don’t like it, but because the festival’s arrival has coincided with gaining my diplomatic posting down south for the first time, and getting kicked out of the University (thus beginning the Scientific voyages), and starting to finally play All Things Must End (and so am itching to explore Tanah-Chook).
So all in all I am rather more keen on putting to sea than hanging around in London right now. But I’m not going to do that while Hallowmass is still going on, now, am I? There are secrets to root out.
More on topic, I got lucky yesterday with the random confession and the NPC swapsie was favourable. These two factors allowed me to get a shiny black kitty cat and upgrade sister Lydia. I’m happy with that, because both of those are better than what I had in those slots, even if I don’t actually like them as much as what I already have. edited by Plynkes on 11/2/2017
Amsfield, congratulations to you too!
Yes, its good point about Criminal Record. I am personally never went to prison (except in Seeking), but players awaited the opportunity to lower criminal record for so long. edited by Waterpls on 11/2/2017

I’m glad you were able to get the two best (IMHO) companions, and that they were actually useful to you. It is a shame when gear you like isn’t as good as OOC or just less cool gear. I remember when I had to retire my beloved Blemmigan for a more practical chapeau, or how little actual use I had for my hard won Secretary. (I like artistic mushrooms, ok?)
I’ve definitely felt that sort of eagerness for a festival to be over before too. The awkward time when you’re past your main objective, but can’t leave London for fear of missing out. Still, not long now and Tanah-Chook is worth the wait. Perhaps not the most staggering mechanical rewards of any ES, but it ticked a lot of boxes for me. Possibly my favorite so far. I enjoyed that whole Cycle quite a lot over all. edited by Amsfield on 11/2/2017

Yeah, I remember having to get myself thrown in on purpose to meet the Forger. I wouldn’t mind getting rid of mine too, but it’s hardly a priority. I understand why some people might be annoyed they can’t get rid of it, as it makes it more permanent than a Faustian pact.
I’ve got my cat and my bat, and will soon have my Lance. If all goes well and I get another confession or two before the end of the event, I may yet get my Weasel as well.
My alt has his Suave Henchman, and will have his Lance soon enough.
I’ve gotten all ten companions and am working toward the Lance, hopefully before Tuesday. snip
After the Paramount Presence grind and this time-limited frantic Hallowmas grind, I don’t think I’m going to raise MW ever again.
Wow! Bloody well done!
I don’t blame you. What method did you use? Stockpiled schemes, or non stop side conversion, or some other, better grind?
Assuming I calculated things correctly Sara only needs to acquire 3 more confessions to get all the companions, which should be doable. Madison definitely has enough for that lance, too, so that’s pretty nice. I still feel like this Halloween was more stressful than it needed to be, but I’m at least meeting all my individual goals.
After much calculating, much luck, a bit of trading, a lot of MW grinding, and (an unfortunate reality) some money spending, I have managed to obtain all ten companions! I know there are entirely Too Many Companions compared to gloves, boots, torso clothes and the like, but…darn it, I like the idea of an ever-expanding cell of multicultural revolutionaries and mercenaries too much to let it go.
…And just now got the Lance as well. If it weren’t for the fact that I put off trying to get Paramount Presence until I got the Fluke-Core and at least one Fecund Amber from the Nadir (traded my five for a Fluke-Core last time, now just need to get one last Fecund Amber…) I could not have hoped to grind enough in time. And then soon Sacksmas will be upon us… @_@ edited by Hotshot Blackburn on 11/2/2017
I think I’ve done pretty well for having “only” 25 BDR. I’ve gotten a notability confession every day since the start, except one day where it took a long time to draw the Amanuensis (also I started with 9 notability so I got a “free” one).
The “expensive” lodgings options to get MW actually aren’t all that expensive compared to side conversions. You get ~1.5 MW per action with side conversions, and it costs you ~1 echo in opportunity cost per action, so each MW point costs ~0.7 echoes. The lodgings cards cost ~1 echo per MW point, which is not much more than side conversions, and obviously much faster. The private auction from the Bazaar lodgings card in particular costs less than side conversions (depending on how much you value personal recommendations and society favors, it’s something like ~5 MW per echo).
I have, unfortunately, had to forsake the Lance, since I managed to land myself in prison a completely excessive amount of times while I was still new. That really bums me out, but I guess you can’t have it all.
I have, fortunately, been able to get all the companions I wanted. Well, I’m still short a weasel, but there’s still plenty of time to grind for two more confessions. In fact, if I can get some extras in time, I’ll go for a second bat, too.
