I landed up not intervening, I don’t feel like it was a wrong choice, at any rate. I’m a little scared what the result for failing that first check to catch her was, given that succeeding results in totally failing to catch her?!
I didn’t journal carefully enough, to see it all again, but… if they make an option at the end to reset and replay it, I’d probably take that. It’s going to be way different rereading the early chapters while knowing what’s going on.
I don’t expect they’ll make that option because of just how much is unlocked by Firmament (items! locations! qualities! Stories!), so it seems involved, but it would be interesting.
Hello, I’m back to trying to finish Old Resurrection’s questline at Stonegift after accidentally being crushed to death by her. Does anyone knows where I can start? I just tried a climb to find Tower again but nothing seems to have proc’d, and she seems to be pointedly absent at the Midnight Moon.
There should be a storylet in the midnight moon proper, if that isn’t the case try checking the quality “the tower, reversed” which might give you a next step. I also took on the sins and died in the process and the storylet was right back at midnight moon for me.
I noticed some hints in the dream sections they’re referenced as sleeping in the room next to you and obviously, there’s the book they want to hunt down. I wonder if more examination of the earlier dreams would turn something up?
Found her there, cheers! Barring some surprise recruits in the future imagine if you’ll be able to spare Tatters/Lucifer in order to make him join the rooftop pirate queen smuggling ring I guess I’m done.
I’ve just finished reading the main story part earlier today, I’ve still got Old Resurrection’s part to go through.
But. Man. That was a blast!
I’ve so far quite liked Firmament, and been far less vocally critical of it than others, but it’s had its flaws at times. Namely overly flowery writing that existed more to be read and felt than understood, locations and plots that felt at times disconnected from each other or even a theoretical whole. That last part worked for the Railway, where the aim wasn’t to figure out a global situation and solve a mystery, not so much here where, well, it was.
So having answers at last, clear ones too, felt good! Tying back to a lot of things from previous chapters felt good!
And as for the new story itself… Okay so yeah, there’s lizards. They’re great. Of course they are. They’re lizards. I love lizards. Lizards are great. But. The repetitive narration of going into the Stacks, into the Apocryphas, seeing things be steadily worse. Seeing how utterly buggered the situations were growing to be. The first one was fun because of how familiar and, dare I say, casual it was. We’ve done this before, we can just cut to the chase, nice and easy.
The second one? Utterly buggered, just look at this Board. Just look at the state of Burrow and the Hurlers! But, ironically, seeing the Castle and the Anchoress were still there was reassuring. Of course it was. The Revolution still prevails. Yes, as you can guess, I made it so there was no situation. Although setting up the Princess was very tempting.
And then. And then. The last one. The payoff from the “where the hell have we/they been” running question. I… expected us to be the villain. So seeing we were fixing stuff? We were working with ourselves? Pure trust, no reservations, because this is us? Oh the sheer bittersweetness of this moment. The calm in the eye of the storm.
And then the choice. I… kind of wanted to try the third one. Bugger all this, I’d be taking matters in my own hands. Again. Quite clearly I’ve done it before. But, well. At this point? I am running on spite. Whatever is doing all this, whyever they are doing this? They tried to use me. Me! They’ll pay for it. I won’t give them this satisfaction. I’d rather die. Again. Very much like the Starved War option of gunning for the Lens despite it being futile. Rage, rage against the dying from the Light.
I was not expecting the final reveal. The Dawn Machine misdirection did its job, I never questioned him. Narratively speaking I should have realised he was the only one who didn’t yet have a plot centered on him. Unlike the Duchess in Burgundy. Unlike the Shepherd in Zenith. Unlike Summer and Saint Valentine’s in Queeneater. Still, his Regards are at 18 so I will drag him screaming and kicking and crying into the Neath with me. I will get drunk with him and pick a fight with Feducci and throw up on the walls of the Bazaar and wake up in the Duchess’ bed with a hangover with him. Or at least I’ll damn well try! Very big Trespasser energy here, even if that one was all wasted on Veilguard.
One other thing I did not expect this chapter was the sheer quantity of Glass Gazettes I would need. Oh well, it made me pace myself.
tl;dr I absolutely loved everything about this chapter, it was an amazing payoff to everything so far. Can’t wait for the resolution.ii
This… Was an Interesting Chapter, yeah.
Being “obstinate” and trying to work with the Dawn Machine might have failed (worth it) But i wanna agree, Having a chance to “retry” this Story might be worth it.
If only to see the hints of the reveal of the “Morning-star”
Now on to wait and stock on material for the next part, and wait to see What is to be in “Courting”/“Desiring” a Duchess from another timeline
I have now played through Old Resurrection’s part in this chapter.
This, too, has been well worth the wait. Fantastic, and fantastically unexpected, payoff.
Now should there be a place to keep track of where the Tower is? Has anyone checked what it actually means, it being somewhere, in mechanicals terms of profits?
-
The Tower’s current location is printed in the Gazette in your Lodgings.
-
The location of the Tower determines the type of items accepted, and possibly the type of items of the payout.
-
We don’t know the type or value of the rewards, because we can’t cash out yet. We’ll find out next Tuesday after the Tower moves!
My personal guess: since you have to pay 250€ worth of items, the reward will be a 312,5€ item, with a profit of 62,5€, in line with other weekly activities like Balmoral Gifts or Khaganian Reports.
I don’t suppose anyone already got hit by their own lightning?
I foolishly triggered this while forgetting I didn’t have Stone-Hearted at 5 so I’m trying to do that so I don’t have to waste another Mortification to get the new Adornment.
For no particular reason whatsoever, does anyone have a set of the tarot cards, and if you do, could you post the Hanged Man? I want to get a better look at the details in the art. For no reason.
If the range reported on the wiki is correct, the Boon should expire after 7 days on average and 5 days at minimum, so we should see the first reports of lightning strikes tomorrow.
I’m also running in circles on the Moon-Miser Roads to raise Stone-Hearted. Luckily I only lost 1 point of Guilt on the first day, so I still have plenty of time left to reach the target before I die.
Appreciate your answers to both of my questions, cheers!
The reward is higher than I expected: 335€ in Moon Pearls and assorted coinage, for a profit of 85€.
This week, the Tower is in Queeneater’s and accepts 2 Mortifications + 2 Hagyotoponyms (still 250€ worth of inputs).
I’m pretty happy with the Burgundy deck as a place to occasionally nab them. I’m mainly aiming for other things, so it feels like a nice lagniappe, and I’m in no rush to be maximally Tested.
They’re grindable in Zenith (well, 4 at a time) in the “Hours Of The Iluminated” storylet-- the Watch A Local Migration option that isn’t tied to the quality of the same name-- that is, “Hours…”-- so far as I can tell (though I don’t know if seeing the option in the first place requires a different quality).
Yeah, that’s the one I’ve been using. Just observed myself up a batch of around 200 so I can Test myself Against the Quartz up to 20.
4 Starved Expressions per action is slow, it’s faster to buy them.
You can get 5-6 Expressions per action by grinding Stuivers in the Stacks, and buying the Expressions.
If you want a simpler grind, you can Observe the fauna of the Antipelago in Stonegift for an equivalent of 5 Expressions per action.
What do you mean I’m back to getting the “A Duchess’ Disapproval” card in Burgundy despite Max being Duke?!?
Is this an actual intended behaviour? Do my choices not matter? What the actual.
