I think the game had around 1.5 million words 8 years ago. Can someone with a better memory confirm or correct this number? Now we have ~1 million only into qualities and variables!
Bruno clarifies on Cohost: this includes all “dynamic” story text. If the text of a storylet updates as the player progresses, we would consider that storylet text from the player’s perspective but to the database that word count belongs to a quality.
So one million words of dynamic story text! Horay!
I can confirm the number. I read it in a review of FL at the time and thought: That’s for me! So I joined, and the prospect of 1.5 million words of storytelling was the reason.
This is interesting to know, because I haver over whether I should make a bid deal of its size. It might be offputting to some… but then, the ones it sounds enticing to are the ones we want!
It is a big deal! It’s almost 3 times as bigger as it was since I joined and let’s not forget the content gap. This means that the game grew this much in ~6 years.

For many Fallen London players and probably for most people in general, they will have a poor grasp of how big a word count of 4.5 million really is. Some perspective or comparisons would be helpful. I offer this one: The three volume Lord of the Rings is only 480,000 to 580,000 words depending on the source you believe.
