Fallen London Announcements

We’ve just made a change to the way we handle in-game announcements. Each new announcement will be displayed at the top of the page. You can dismiss it with a click, and the bar won’t show up again until we make a new announcement or you delete your cookies. It will still be visible on the messages tab if you need to check something later.

We realise some people may find the change mildly annoying. But it’s a solution to a long-running concern for us. No matter how many channels we use – Twitter, Facebook, email, the messages tab, our blog, the forums – we’ve found that a substantial portion of our players never see our announcements. These are the people we hope it will be most useful to. If you’re a regular visitor to these forums, you are probably unusually well informed about what’s going on in Fallen London.

And we won’t update it very often: generally, once for each major content release, and a few times during time-sensitive events like Hallowmas and Christmas.

Don’t suppose it’s possible to tie it to the accounts? I clear my cookies every day, and it’d be somewhat inconvenient to dismiss it daily. I like the feature otherwise.

Edit: I mean, I can deal with it being cookie based. I coped with the Dream World, and that was way more of a hassle than this. It’s just the slightest of issues, and if it isn’t going to change very often it’d be nice to be able to dismiss it once per account until it changes again.

Edit 2: Well, I tried but I can’t seem to save that cookie regardless of what I do. I even uninstalled Firefox reset it to Remember History (for whatever reason it wouldn’t save my preferences, but nope. Oh well. Though the cookie is set to expire at &quotend of session,&quot which is probably why I can’t save it.

Final Edit: All better now! Thank you.
