Expeditions? Oh. I’ve done eight expeditions to "A shrine of Deep Blue Heaven". Not a single skull. I got all my skulls by "Seeking Curios and Secrets in the Forgotten Quarter". Apparently it’s a much more reliable source.
Needed to do the expeditions to get to Archaeologist 5. My alt had been Seeking Curios for so long that their watchful is about 30 levels higher than the other three stats.
Thanks for the reality check – I’ll keep hunting!
Is Watchful 115ish too low to attempt the Nadir?
And: I am assuming that whispered secrets is the most cost-effective way of acquiring supplies. Someone please tell me quickly if that’s not the case! Working towards 100 supplies and grinding for an eyeless skull at the moment…
I don’t think it is, if I recall correctly there aren’t many things inside the cave that are in any way dependant on stats. Well, there is this one completely ridiculous persuasive challenge, but it’s almost impossible even with very high stats. Other than that the hardest part is expedition. I recommend checking out this guide, it’s good but there are spoilers in it.
As to supplies - I think whispered secrets are the way to go. The least cost-effective way is spending echoes.
It’s even more cost effective to convert your echoes into Whispered Secrets than it is to use echoes directly.
Many thanks! A day of grinding. Many secrets, clues and relics. One brass ring. Some sherry. no skulls as yet…
Is there a better way to switch up Airs of the Forgotten Quarter toward 21-40 and 61-70? The other actions in Seeking Curios and Secrets in the Forgotten Quarter seem to be very low value and feels like a huge waste spending actions on them to maybe get to do Wander/Seeking.
Not that I’m aware of, which is part of why getting a bunch of skulls usually takes ages.
Hi,
if somebody has a skull to spare, I could use one. That, and raising Secular Missionary 8->10 (Firebrand has been at 10 for ages). Currently grinding to restock my expedition supplies at the University (thanks Correspondence Stones!), since completing the initial excavations were quite resource-consuming.
Character name: Karhumies
I would also like to offer to trade for skulls. I haven’t much to give, but I’ll do most social actions or send you a mysterious gift or two. My aim is 6 to get a cinder.
My aim is 6 to get a cinder.
I believe that you can only ask for a skull if you haven’t already got one, so after the first one (before you actually set out for the Cave of Nadir) you’d still have to find another four yourself. Then you can trade them in for a cinder and ask for a skull for the expedition again. Unless perhaps it’s possible for you to ask 5-6 different skull-holders and tell them to not accept the request until you’re done asking for skulls. Could work, perhaps?
Also, a skull can be sold for 62.50 Echoes, so I’d say it’s worth six Surprise Packages since they cost 10 Echoes each. If you want to put a price on it.

Assuming that it’s possible to ask for multiple skulls, if you’re really going to spend 6 surprise packages on each skull, that’s 360 echoes and 36 gifting opportunity cards. Might as well just spend the 400 to buy a cinder directly and save yourself the actions.
Well, it’d be 300 Echoes and 30 cards for the five skulls that are needed for the cinder that would otherwise cost 400 Echoes. The sixth skull is for the expedition. 30 Actions and 30 cards that save you 100 Echoes would equal 30 x 3.33 Echoes/Action cards. I wish I could draw such cards.
You know what, for the sake of expedience, I think I’ll just look for one skull and fork over for the cinder. While I wouldn’t mind giving out gifts, I don’t want to be sending out packages for the next month or so. As for what I’d pay, six surprise packages or some combination with other stuff seems reasonable.[li]

In that case it does seem like a fair deal, but logistically I think it would take quite a while to draw 30 give a gift opportunities. I only see those once every couple days or so. You’d need to have some patient skull donors.
First City Coins don’t need Opportunity cards to send out.

Since I last posted in this thread (2 days ago it seems), I’ve acquired 4 skulls. I would say I’ve spent 90% of my actions looking for secrets and curios and then getting out of the Mirror Marches (since I don’t have the patience to send and wait for a response to Confessions of Fears). The other 10% flipping cards and playing the odd one for a bit of a break.[/li]Number 5 seems to be taking a bit of a while to come along, but when it does I’ll trade them all in for a cinder. And then, unless it happens quickly, probably commence begging for someone to send me one so that I can commence the expedition to the Nadir!
I have also built up a pretty nice store of Secrets and Clues along the way, not to mention Relics of the Fourth City. At 5p a pop, these have been building up very nicely. Is there any storyline that I should be saving them for? Since they are non-convertible I am tempted to sell and purchase some upgraded gear…

No use for Relics of the Fourth City until you are POSI and have access to the Bazaar side streets, but that only takes 10 (and a variety of other things) and they are easy to come by in the Forgotten Quarter. I would upgrade your gear.
Its seems your RNG luck is vastly superior to mine. I recall spending about a week going between the forgotten quarter and the carnival (to down gallons of wine) when I first tried to enter the nadir. I got 1 skull the entire time and it spent the rest of the time eating up my stats. Since I was lower level at the time and I needed the stats to become a posi, I decided to sell the bloody thing and take a stab at it later. All in all, I just don’t trust my luck regarding rare successes, I almost never seem to get them.
