I linked all three endings on the prior page of this thread.
If I’m a new player, should I do this quest now, or wait until I’ve met the different deputies I can take?
The choice of deputies changes some of the dialogue but not much else. You aren’t likely to meet all the deputies for a while anyways; Silas will show up at the beginning of January through Sacksmas and I remember not getting the Sardonic Music-hall Singer until I had persuasive ~120. Hence the no requirement option for the Gnomic Adventurer, or whatever her name is. (Also, one choice during the story allows you to replace your deputy with a story-specific deputy.)
You can also make the acquaintance of the Sardonic Music-Hall Singer via the case of the Absconding Devil (by making a certain choice), which is accessible even for very new characters.
I already did that quest and made the “wrong” choice I’m afraid. Will I get a chance to meet her later?
You will be able to meet her in London later as you head through the storylets, even if you’ve finished the Absconding Devil case.
However, I don’t think that you can use her as a deputy anymore. As Optimatum says, though, you aren’t missing out on much except flavour text. And I think all the other deputies also offer rather interesting dialogue!
A few questions on the uses of various qualities/items:
The Knapt - The only use I’ve seen for it is hiring extra assistants. The Word you can use for quite a few purposes but for the Knapt I haven’t. Have I missed anything?
Foresighted Plans - Comforts have loads of uses. Valorous Intents have very few but one is dealing with a menace, so it sort of makes sense. But FP seems to be used as a generic resource to very occasionally give you progress when loads of other branches give progress as well. Are there any semi-unique uses for FP?
The Huz - Am I right that you can’t start this at all if you don’t have enough Subtle? I think this is the first time since the quirk overhall where a Quirk is used to unlock content rather than simply provide RP flavour
Impediment for a Rival - any use whatsoever?! I haven’t seen it unlock anything so then I thought maybe it locks things and playing with a character without an Impediment should be difficult. But no, no changes that I’ve noticed so far…
Sorry if this was already covered, but if you’ve already completed Flint, is it possible to return to Caution or the Bleeding Forest via Adam’s Way?
Not yet, no. But I believe there have been comments from the developers to the effect that the content was structured to be reusable in the future.
That’s a shame, apparently I missed out on some good content in the forest (the Huz).
Hm, across a very strange quality:
If you approach the Lesser Wounds without the Patroness there is an option to fight. The option is unlocked by having no “Imperturbable Patroness or her ilk”. Or her ilk?!?
Yes but it’s the name of a quality. So it’s something that you should be able to have. So either there is a quality by that name and noone has been able to access it or, more likely, it’s a special template for not having the patroness. But if so that’s a very odd and unprecedented one
I -loved- the flit. There’s however one thing I need to say in parting:
OUUUUUCCCCHHHHH ANTHONY YOU CRUEL BASTARD! That was 30 persuasive.
I have to ask people who made -that- choice… What’s best to cure a hangover ? Strangling willow Absinthe or Fourth City Airag?

(ratwork derringer)
I seem to be stuck in Caution. I have spoken to parakeets and so on. Indeed, I’ve done all the things that are unlocked, acquiring various things along the way. But I cannot unlock the things that are locked and I see no way to move on or back. I’m sure this is me and not FL. Advices, hints or thoughts?

You need to
question the citizens and then prepare for an expedition
Which of these is locked and what qualities are you missing?

Oh how foolish I am. thanks. I was short one quality but can readily remedy that. I had been focused on another route that required me to use items in my inventory but i couldn’t use them in Caution. Now all is clear. I am in your debt.

"You unlocked this with Elder Expedition’s Progress 334 (you needed 50)". This is how long it took me to wring every last drop of content out of the Bleeding Forest. Actually, no; all the challenges were straightforward for me, so the only failure text I saw came from luck checks (of which I think there was only one). On the other hand, I got to stay as long as I wished without any adverse effects, which helped me explore to the fullest the rich buffet of available options. With so much content on offer, my experience of the Forest would have been rather impressionistic had I left as soon as I had the requisite progress.
And it would be a shame to leave so early, because this was a delightful new world of mystery and wonder, with engrossing text and beautiful art, and more variety than I had expected to see; it really felt at first as if new cards would never stop coming. If it got a little grindy towards the end, that was only because I stayed far more than I was supposed to (waiting for the final few unexplored branches to reappear), and it was still absolutely worth it. The mechanics would also have impressed me had I not been familiar with them from the Flash Lay, but here they felt more natural, and the unknown elements (both the obstacles and not knowing initially how much progress was needed to move on) were appropriate in this setting.
I’m really excited about this. I enjoyed Apis Meet and Caution very much, and everywhere I go I am struck by the sheer novelty of the Elder Continent (I’d never been across the Zee before), but it’s the Bleeding Forest that felt the least like London. It’s worth the price of admission by itself, and at least in terms of gameplay it’s a definite highlight of the story. Well, the story so far. I have a decision to make before I can move on…
I remember reading this (without the spoiler, which I have removed from the quotation because it wouldn’t display properly) and thinking, "Really, how hard could it be to find an option?" And then I couldn’t find it myself. The place from which one departs was the very first I visited in Apis Meet, but it only had the one (generic) branch, so I didn’t think to return later in case something else appeared. Is it possible that losing the Cherty quality unlocked the other branches? Does anyone know?
The Duke of Waltham, since you’ve explored it so thoroughly, have you come across:
-
Any use for the Impediment for a Rival that you get for completing the Dish & Spoon quest in Apis Meet?
-
The presumably rare success for taking a hostage on the Village-Fruit (It says “You’ll likely lose an assistant even if you succeed”, suggesting it’s possible to avoid the loss)
-
Indeed, any rare successes anywhere
-
Whether having both Road of Excess and Palace of Wisdom unlocks anything? (i.e. if you pick up a Road of Excess again after gaining Palace of Wisdom)
I’m a bit scratching my head here:
I started playing the first part when it was released, just to the point where I was poking questions at the bishop (so, not very far). I thought it would be like other exceptional stories, where you play a little, and then it stays open even after the month passed.
Now I noticed a storylet “Flint: An Urgent Note from the Bishop” in my lodgings, with the quality icon saying I have no “Purchased: Flint”.
How far do I have to play for it to stay open?
