Tell that to the Rubbery Man.
I’ve been stood up for a coffee at Caligula’s by a dead bat for 77 consecutive days. Who does he think he is-…
I only wanted to kill that damn demonic goat. 70% chance. Three failures in a row.
I hate that goat.
Gah I’m tired of trying for this stupid yacht I’ll just go and grind docks favors for a while instead…
no I won’t I don’t have a ship
stupid yacht
The day after successfully storming the Nadir using a hat, I drew another hat. Today I discarded it due to a double-click.
I’m… actually relieved. It was a major pain to constantly worry about.
Current hat count: 1 used effectively, 2 accidentally discarded.
I wish cards would just stay in their d__n slots.
edit 2017/08/28: after discarding that one, I drew yet another one the following day and discarded it presently.

It’s probably nothing so terrible in comparison to some other tales in this thread, but I failed at my first attempt for a classical story, with almost 70% chance due to saved up case-notes. It proves to be a bit harder to swallow then I was expecting…
EDIT: Spelling. (D__n, was it terrible)

Accidentally landed on the Slow Boat with my SMEN-trashed Watchful. Goddamn is it suddenly hard to get out of there! Giving up on chess for now, just waiting for opp cards to refresh. I even sacrificed my weasels and bats which I’ve never done before!
I’m really into Correspondence. It’s one of my favorite parts of FL and my character’s favorite pursuits. So I got ready to get my last two levels of SotC. Got the mood card ready - have been saving it for ages! Got all the resouces prepared. Cleared wounds. Double checked that I have enough Correspondence Plaques. Full candle. Some saved coffees. Saved card to clear acquired wounds. All prepared.
Ready. Set… And then, instead of Go, I click Discard on my mood card.
No more mood card - and therefore no Courier Footprint in the forseeable future.
Head->Desk.
I had the nadir of Nadir runs (11 irrigo and nothing to show for it), got a single digit amount of souls per action from UB 6 times in a row, exploded 5 weasels, and gave my most precious dream to Schlomo ("spoiler-free", my derriere).
Not a good day.
in comparision, it’s not particularly groundbreaking in terms of gameplay; however, I’m not sure how is my pride ever going to recover after dying from being shot in the hand.
"That’s hilarious" I said. "Who could possibly die from being shot in the hand?"
And then I took a Velocipede Squad to the knee

Don’t you hate that little, snide comment about “this challenge is old territory for you!” Yes, but – still dead.
Technically, I don’t even think you were shot. I think your gun was shot out of your hand. Perhaps the stock whacked your head as it went by.
the mortician jotted down the cause of death as "public humiliation" and noted that shortly after recovery the citizien in question, despite excellent physical condition, repeatedly requested to be mummified and shipped off to the farthest tomb-colony
I don’t know if this is the sort of thing you guys mean by painful failures, but I just got rid of 14 Notability while trying to raise one of my stats to 215 by accidentally clicking "Come to the assistance of Dr F______" and I feel like I need to share this with someone and it felt very painful to me

I came here to say I accidentally threw the Amanuensis on his oily little ear, but this… is something else. I feel your pain.
That would be precisely the thing, and I am so very, very sorry.
So I’ve got a bunch of cellars of wine from breeding hounds of heaven. I’ve been meaning to upconvert them, so I draw all my cards at my lodgings.
Drew my first Presumptuous Opportunity card in several days, immediately discarded it.
:(
My painful failure was that I got 7 consecutive fortunate results on the "Steam Boldly" option in the Broad Unterzee. That’s a failure, because in this case I wished to capture a Plated Seal.
7 fortunate results… Perhaps this is the work of the Drowned One.
I just started playing in April and until like early August i never got the point of the journal so i just…never used it, i rlly wish I did i like keeping track of stuff
