Chrome extension: Conversion Helper

Thank you so much for the faction item update! It is a glorious thing. I was just thinking that I really wish it existed after forgetting the exact name / location of faction items and having to look it up, and there it is.

Another request:

Would it be possible to create such an inventory section for the Fidgeting Writer conversion items?

Yes, absolutely. I will probably have it default to ‘invisible’ in the popup menu, in the interests of unobtrusiveness. I’ll have to play Fidgeting Writer all the way to the end to check the item IDs, something I’ve actually never done before (so this is a good excuse).

It’ll be a few days before I can push out the update, though: I’m close to finishing a large refactoring as part of making the faction item icons more useful, so I will make sure all of that is working as intended before I add the category.

Finally, as I didn’t want to keep bumping the thread to do so, so I’ll take this opportunity to thank everyone for the positive feedback. I’m glad the extension is useful!

Just let us know if you want any help with finding item IDs…

Thanks again!

Like these [828, 982, 983, 984, 985, 986, 987, 669]. Nice work, mate!

Nice.

Though that last one is the Coruscating Soul itself, which you can’t actually use/play as part of the Fidgeting Writer run (though it might be nice to see how many you’ve accumulated).

Yep, exactly those! I guessed that the Lens of Black Glass was 987, but it’s good to have confirmation. I’ll plug those in and get to work. Thanks a million, Skinnyman!

Is there any way you could add a golden border to the items that grant MW?
(Pending FBG approval)

Thank you so much for your hard work on this! It’s perfect!

I’m so glad to discover this, thank you so much!

A bit of news that’s relevant for people who are currently using the extension: I’ve published an update to version 1.3.10. This update (a) adds the Fidgeting Writer category, as requested — hidden by default, as it’s a bit of an Interface Spoiler, but visible on the dropdown menu — and (b) makes the faction items category a bit more useful by checking the rest of the ‘Myself’ tab to see whether you can convert Favours to Renown (i.e., enough Favours and/or modified attributes high enough). Item icons are greyed out with an explanation in the tooltip if you don’t meet the requirements. I find it slightly less frustrating than the previous incarnation, and I hope you do too.

I ended up rewriting the extension almost from the ground up in order to make doing the latter easier, so there may be some weirdness when you upgrade. (The likeliest effect of this would be the extension simply failing to show up on the page.) If you have any problems, please uninstall and reinstall the extension (links are in the OP). If problems persist, then let me know — preferably by email to gallmarchindustries@gmail.com.

Apologies for the inconvenience!

I really like the new version. Very well done.

I especially like that the faction items’ icons show the number of available Favours.
I was also impressed to see the hover text update on the fly (showing missing stats) as I played with my inventory, equipping items.

Thanks a lot! Much appreciated!

Thank you so much! I love this and use it all the time! If only it would work on the ipad version of Chrome! One suggestion for future versions - I can see how many favors I have for the deactivated renown items but the active one does not show this. I realize that for most this means there are 7 favors, but in the early renown levels it could be less. Anyway, thanks again!

That’s weird. There should be a number at the bottom right of the faction item’s icon that shows the number of Favours you have, whether or not you’re able to convert them. In the screenshot below, for example, I’ve got 4 Favours: Constables (which I can convert) and 3 Favours: Criminals, which I can’t. If what you’re seeing is different, can you post a screenshot?

Thank you thank you thank you! This new version is beyond incredible! I must say, I was confused at first when I thought I had five Jewelled Reliquiaries, but I quickly realized the number is merely showing how many favours I have. And the fidgeting writer is also a nice touch.

Note to FBG: Hire this person to fix the mess that is your Story qualities tab :P

I see them now! Either I didn’t notice them before (a real possibility) or I needed to reload Chrome (which I did because I installed updates). So thanks again!

Deploying software at Christmas is a futile act of self-destruction that will probably end with people’s hair on fire, and thus entirely in-character for Fallen London. I have just published version 1.4 to the Chrome Web Store and Mozilla Add-Ons… thing, and it should gradually become available as they update.

Version 1.4 gives you a bit of control over whether items are enabled or disabled. You can choose whether ‘Tier X’ items are enabled for mass conversions, for small-quantity conversions, or always; and you can decide to keep faction items enabled all the time, should you wish.

As usual, it works for me on my machine, but testing the upgrade path is quite difficult and I might not have caught every corner case, so you might encounter problems when updating. A delete-and-reinstall should get things back to normal. Bug reports and feedback are extremely welcome, of course!

Absolutely essential extension, should be part of vanilla game, etc. I have only small bug report - on Firefox, the part of code counting favors for renown conversion isn’t working. It always shows &quotyou have 0 favors, need 3&quot, so it never enables the items (thus I am even more glad that now, we can enable them, always).

Tested on version 52.5.2 (64 bity) (ESR).

//Edit

I really, really hope that version for Pale Moon or Basilisk Browser (FOSS, based on modified Gecko engine, extension engine available) will happen at some point, cause after the fiasco-fail firefox v 57 (aka &quotlet’s break 99% of addons for sheer fun of it&quot) come out for all, we will be having many people migrating.

I’ve just spun up Firefox 52.5.3 ESR (64-bit, Linux) and installed Conversion Helper and I can’t reproduce this problem. If you’re running something like NoScript or HTTPS Everywhere, there’s a chance that they might interfere with Conversion Helper, although this seems unlikely (without also breaking Fallen London itself). Without being able to reproduce the bug I’m afraid there’s not much I can do to help. You might have to tough it out with the workaround until the v60 ESR and see if matters improve then. Sorry about that!

For what it’s worth, I’ve just checked Basilisk 2018.01.05 (64-bit) and Conversion Helper is working OK there. From what I understand, Basilisk’s support for the WebExtensions API is experimental, so no guarantees, but you might have more luck there.

Works perfectly for me.
(Quantum 57.0.4 (64-Bit).)

PS: Again thank you for this extension. I can no longer live without it!
