I’m a relatively new player (only about 2 weeks or so). Perhaps mistakenly, I got involved with the whole election shebang. Now I have a "Further Your Reputation" Opportunity Card blocking up my hand, and I can’t get rid of it. It’s non-discardable, but every single option on it requires things I don’t have - a Short Story, Vital Intelligence, Silent Souls, or Favours with a variety of groups. Plus, my skills are so newbie-low right now that I have no prospect of earning any of these any time soon. So I can’t complete the card, but the game won’t let me discard/ignore it, which seems odd: You can ignore just about every other opportunity that comes along, no matter how promising; why does the game force you to "Further Your Reputation." I tried looking for ways to quit the election/drop out of politics so I would stop getting all of these demands to do electioneering, but couldn’t find a way. Is it possible to just quit the election? If not, is there any other way to get rid of this frustrating card other than of spending dozens (hundreds?) of actions grinding to get stuff just so I can spend it on this @#$%^ card?

You can leave it in your hand and you won’t pull it?
Could also get favours from other cards for it, or vital intelligence from the election flash lay?
That’s probably annoying for a new player with a 2-card hand. And it’s a pretty frequent card, if you "grind up" the resources to do it once it’ll probably show up again pretty soon.
I don’t see another option, though, election will be over in a week and a half or so anyway, so probably just wait. Or contact FBG and maybe they’ll make it discardable, or give it some harmless option that you can play with no requirements…
If you have a 2-card hand and you get another non-discardable card, you have an unsolvable problem–either wait till the Election ends, or e-mail Failbetter for help.
But if you are still getting one or more other cards, you have a way to get out of the problem. It isn’t that hard to get Favours for a faction–usualy you can do that by playing a storylet on one of their Opportunity cards. For example, one card allows you to get a Favour just by doing an action to provide an "alibi" for a Criminal which gives you one point (not one level, one point toward gaining a level) of Suspicion. You can use one Favour for any one of about half-a-dozen factions (one of which is Criminals) to play the Reputation card and get rid of it.
Good luck!
The card is Ubiquitous. That’s ten times as frequent as a standard card, and the same frequency as the undiscardable Merry Gentlemen card that starts following you around when your nightmares reach level 5.
I’ve been holding the card in my hand for a few days, simply because I’m at level 20 in my career and I don’t see a reason to spend another diamond to get 5 more reputation points. I imagine it would be quite annoying if I didn’t have a 5-card hand.

And it’s a pain in the ass to get it when you actually need it.
