For a while now, we’ve been working on a couple of new projects. Today we’re very excited to announce the first of them!

Mask of the Rose is a romantic visual novel and prequel to all our other games set in the Fallen London universe.

The announcement post sounds like we’ll be helping a "vocabularious Master" romance someone else. So… maybe, in an "it’s complicated" kind of way.
It’s a style of point-and-click game (as in, you select options to interact, rather than moving a character through an environment)! They borrow a lot of inspiration from comics, which borrow from visual novels in turn, and are often focused on romance, dating, or light role-playing adventures. Ace Attorney and Monster Prom are a couple of examples you should have no trouble finding gameplay videos of, though there are many, and they’re a popular format for emphasizing illustration and simulated conversation over complex programming.
I’m excited about this! I love the Feast of the Rose and the romance elements of past games, and I think this is a fun new way to have Fallen London presented.
Usually its a game with very little gameplay, few real choices and a lot of text and static art.
We will see what FBG have to offer, but I am not keen on ROMANTIC part.
I have to agree with this. If Romance is going to be the actual focus of this game, I’ll have to sit that one out.
Just saw the trailer and I am verrrrrry excited about this. Pretty sure this is FBG giving us a dating sim, basically. edited by The Dreadful Intriguer on 12/2/2020
I love the hairstyle of the character in the centre. But it strikes me as very late Victorian/Edwardian, That would make it perfect for Fallen London. But it seems a tad anachronistic for the 1860s, which was all about centre partings, ringlets, and elaborately-tied arrangements around the back.
Their entire outfit says late Victorian/Edwardian to me - the shirt and collar, the tie, the waistcoat. If they’re not a devil, they’re at least buying their clothes from one.
Yeah, not to mention we have three men of that time, and not one of them has any outlandish facial hair. Ridiculous beards were even more popular then than they are now.
He he. Don’t mind me. Picking nits is fun, sometimes. :)

Frankly, there are not enough men with beards and moustaches in Fallen London in general. :p

Well apparently, one can identify London’s constables by their moustaches, so they’re definitely there.
