I noticed that after fighting through the bees (I’m talking about the event that requires 100x candles) a few times, that storylet disappeared and another appeared in it’s place- one where I had the option to ask about scathewick- but there was also another option.

One of the two was greyed out, and mousing over the icon indicated that i needed 1 more level in… i forgot what it was, but it was something along the lines of a “running battle” state- the one that I had been grinding by fighting through the bees to free dozens of prisoners.

I ended up taking the non-greyed option for obvious reasons, but I am left wondering- how could I have taken the greyed option, given that the bee option was taken away from me?

You could apply Running Battle from other sources. I don’t know if you’re too high level for the eradication contracts in Watchmaker’s Hill or too low level for duelling with the Black Ribbon, but the Regretful Soldier is always willing to help with a fight.

I had forgotten: You never outlevel the running battle with Jack of Smiles at the end of the Watchmaker’s Hill content.
