Agents: Bones and Biologies

“I’ve been trying to start up a new enterprise for a while now. A research body.” The Focused Resurrectionist lets out a short, barking laugh. “And not the kind I procure for the doctors and dentists, if you catch my drift.”

Today we’re releasing new Agents for Fallen London, focused on the Shapeling Arts and the Neath’s monstrous anatomies! Save a ‘colleague’ of F.F. Gebrandt from the law’s overzealous attention, and establish a new bastion of scientific innovation. There is much yet to be learned about the bodies of the Neath…

This is a basic set of Plots to introduce the characters and concepts; like with previous concerns, we expect to expand and complicate the opportunities available to these Agents in future releases.

Agents are capable retainers who will gladly take care of business on your behalf. Engage agents of different types, with their own skills; equip them with your second best gear and send them on various Plots.

Once you’ve unlocked Agents, you can run a single Plot at a time, and unlock the ability to run a second through gameplay. Exceptional Friends can run a further Plot – and Enhanced Exceptional Friends another still! – provided they have enough Agents to assign.

Players who have attained ‘A Person of Some Importance’ at tier-two status, and who have University laboratories with at least 25 Prestige, can begin this endeavour from ‘A Scientist at the Door’ in your Lodgings.

I was expecting it sometime this week, but not first thing on a Monday! I guess those grave robbers must get used to working odd hours.

I don’t have enough Plots off cooldown so I’ll barely be able to get started today. Initial setup takes perhaps a dozen actions, including a short lab experiment and 2000 Curator’s Gratitude, the latter of which can be obtained ahead of time.

Considering the subject matter and framing, I’m guessing/hoping that we’ll see some laboratory tie-ins! I would love to have a second experiment that uses Piscene Research. Tragedy it’s only seen once, ever.

I discovered the true nature of the bone in my lab and the storylet seems to have disappeared?

– OK, I refeshed and it came back, sorry!

Bit late to the party (I was out of the country for a bit and can never remember to take my forum login) but I love how F.F. Gerbrant has unique dialogue for examining the resurrectionist’s bone, that she just dispatched you to deal with. Also, it’s very funny to me that the Resurrectionist will sometimes set off to transform his body, then change his mind halfway through about what he’s doing (so far he’s got distracted making a tentacle twice and made an organ to see the neathbow and gills instead. Then he’s set out to do gills again and it has become a thumb).

Thirteen. Thirteen plots, and unlocking the second Agent, before I finally got the rare success to run the secret third plot. The RNG is usually kind to me but this one stung because I’m more excited about this Concern than the three existing ones.

On to new biologies!

Almost the same here, but I still haven’t gotten the Morphology quality yet. I’ve done Dissection 11 times, recruited the Rubbery agent and still nothing. I’m used to RNG wonkiness but this is starting to drive me crazy.

Edit: And the worst part is that you lose that quality once you complete the repeatable Surgical plot. So there’s a chance you’ll have to do that all over again.

On the other hand, the repeatable Pushing the Limits of Morphology plot is the new best EpA plot: it has a higher EpA than Infiltrating, and it’s even easier.

An Agent needs 9 Monstrous Anatomy+ Shapeling Arts combined to reach the final cycle with 100% chance. This is not as high as it seems, a long-time player can get a lot of duplicate items in these skills even without spending Fate.

A player who started at the beginning of 2025 could easily reach 6, which is already sufficient to reach the final cycle 50% of the times:

+1 from Agent base stats
+2 from items which can be purchased at any time (Supracranial Skull and Ribcage Breastplate)
+1from the Leviathan Knife which is currently available at the Rat Market, until the end of August
+1 from the Corpulent Carriage which will be available at FotZ in September
+1 from a Whitsun Companion (Rubbery Dragon or Three-Headed Terror Bird)

Long-time players get a few extra points from past Estivals:

+1 if they have the Ambassador Seal from the original 2023 Estival (same SA as the permanently available Amber Vision of the Sea of Spines)
+1 if they have the Bronze Plaque from the original 2022 Estival (same MA as the Rank of Flight Captain available from the Starved War)

If one really wants 100% chance, they could get the final +1 buying a duplicate during Whitsun or Estival, e.g. the currently available SA Luggage.

Locking the plot behind a rare quality balances it out, I guess. In the meantime, one can run the Dissection plot which is the best pure Scrip plot (cashing out Curator’s Gratitude in food).

Agreed. Even though it took me 14 Surgical plots to get the Morphology quality, the XPA turns out to something like 0.23 after accounting for the actions spent opening up the new plot. That’s still better than all of the other “normal” plots my Agents are doing.

If you can get that quality after just one Surgical plot (which apparently everyone else and their mother has managed to do) the XPA is just under Infiltrating (again, accounting for actions to get quality), but you can actually 100% this one, as you said.
