A Guide to Lacre?

For that matter, anyone tried ‘Take the air’ yet?

No idea, but that’s the one story from Sunless Sea I always use to recommend the game, so I’m happy to see a crossover! Plus, you know, unique item. gotta have.

I mean, I hope there’s -something- to do with it, because otherwise it’s a stolen corpse full of electroplated woe cluttering up my drawing room, but, you know. que sera, sera.

Anyone know if Take the Air and Pilfer use up Lacre? I want to make sure I have enough Lacre to still upgrade my lodging, but if I do that first I won’t be able to try these other options. Hmm… do I risk it…

Pilfer uses up a LOT of Taste of Lacre. Five, if I’m counting correctly.

I -think- Take The Air takes up one point on a success.

Hm. Anyone have info on a failure? I only have Taste of Lacre 4 left, and I’d like to spend my last three on another lodging.

You can try other options as long as you’ve got Lacre 3 left. You’ll need to spend another 5 actions to get back, though.

The only lodging I don’t have is the only one I can’t get - as I can’t sell my soul.

So I guess I’ll spend my lacre on the box or maybe taking the air, but I have no idea what either does.

Still, I got no other use for it so when my actions regen I guess I’ll try these options.

Unless… maybe I could save the lacre for getting Tears in the Nadir. I think I have lacre at 11, and I have two pails. Maybe I could get it to 14 and get two Tears. Thoguh I think I might only get it to 13. I need to look into this some more.

Edit: Or I could go for a Noman I guess, but I doubt I’d be able to keep him alive for more than a week. And I’m not usually on enough to get all the cards I’d like to see for the Noman.

I’d be down to 2 unfortunately. Though now I’m actually in the wicket I’m tempted to delay my upgrade to another day, and blow all my lacre on other options :)

Taking the Air costs a point of Lacre on a failure as well, so I guess I’ll have to wait until someone echoes the success text.

It’s beautiful, though. It’s not really a failure…

…how dare the Bazaar. How dare it.

The Soothe & Cooper Long Box is a Nostalgia item that sells for 25 x An Identity Uncovered

Faaaascinating! That plus the success result (check Esther’s profile) tells us a bit about life in the Second City. That plus the glimpses we’ve seen of the Fourth… well, we’re learning a bit about Bazaar history here. I’m on a minor Egyptology kick lately so I’m all for it. (Incidentally, are we assuming Visage is a surviving Second City colony? That or Babylonian, I figured, and Egyptian seemed much more likely.)

Edit: Popped by Visage and looked up some of the local detail. Nilometer. Statue of Khnum. Or Ra. Or both. Ritual bleeding of a tethered bull. Plus, of course, the feather symbol of the innocent heart. Egyptian, of course. Some cell of Second City splitters, returning to polytheistic practices with particular peculiarities?

Yep, I found it on Esther’s profile. I think I got the better one. :)

Though I’d hang on to it, since (a) it’s probably unique, and (b) if you want to make money from Taste of Lacre you should trade 7 ToL in the Nadir for Tears of the Bazaar (312.50 Echoes), not 5 ToL for 62.5 Echoes.

I’m definitely going to hang on to it and maybe get a second one while the Wicket is open just in case something comes along that needs one :)

I know I went there last year, but could someone please tell me WHERE Penstock’s Wicket is to be found?

Anywhere, but a) You need to finish the Mr. Sacks stories to see it, b) you need Lacre 3 to actually enter

Ah, thank you. I’m still flipping cards to try to find the Sackses.

Has anyone echoed the results of failing to take the air?
