Our community is the smartest, funniest and most attractive on the whole internet. (Is that a new hat? Is it supposed to be… smiling? It looks great!) With your help and brilliant feedback, we’ve made a game we’re really proud of. Your kind support got us this far.
Our aim is to be in the top ten selling titles on Steam on our launch day. That kind of visibility could make a very meaningful difference to the future of Failbetter (and the future of the game, DLC, etc), so we are massing all of our efforts to get there on 6 February.
To make this happen, we need your help! Here are:
Ten Easy Ways YOU Can Help Us Crack the Top Ten on 6 February
This is the most important link for sharing and shouting about on the day: http://store.steampowered.com/app/304650/
1. Tweet or Tumbl about the game. It takes a few seconds and will help hugely. Your endorsement means a lot to us.
2. Write a review of Sunless Sea on Steam. Help people get to know the finished product. Upload a review (after the Early Access stuff has left the page) and help our finished game make a good impression on the public.
3. Reassure people that we do not practice cannibalism. This rumour has been dogging us for more than a year now and it simply will not do.
4. Facebook-post. This isn’t for everyone, but if you have friends and family who play games, or are a member of any Facebook groups who would genuinely enjoy the game, then this is the time to share it with them.
5. Get a prominent Sunless Sea tattoo, like we did. I'm almost afraid to leave this one here in case someone actually does it. You all have previous (I'm looking at you, Seekers).
6. Stream the game on launch day, on Twitch, YouTube or Steam. Promote the stream to your friends and followers, we’ll feature our favourites and may even drop in if you give us some notice. Just playing the game on Steam on the 6th will help drive awareness!
7. Paste the Steam URL into any chat windows you have open. Add the phrase ‘REJECT THE DAWN MACHINE.’ They must be warned.
8. Reddit with us! We’re doing an AMA on launch day, where we’ll be talking about Sunless Sea, Early Access, Fallen London and probably whether we’d fight one giant crab or a hundred small ones. More details to come.
9. Whisper ‘Sunless Sea’ into your cupped hands. Breathe it into bottlenecks, sing it down drainpipes, sign it to silent password-keepers. Only those two words. Do not explain. Do not stop.
10. Join us for our Virtual Launch Party! Details are to be confirmed, but a number of hardy Failbetters will be sticking around on 6 Feb (UK evening/night time) to join YOU for an almost-actual, actually-virtual party. Things that we can neither confirm nor deny will happen: streaming Sunless Sea, dares, rats, the opportunity to chat to the team while we get progressively more drunk and emotional. Bring friends, rivals, cousins, people you’ve just met and want to impress.
If you're planning something for launch, let us know, and we'll use this thread to keep you updated with timings for the actual launch, AMA and virtual launch party.

Woo, release day on its way! I shall be social media-ing and Steam-promoting, and I shall have to remember to wake up early on Saturday to catch the equivalent of evening London time. And, I have to admit that I'm already fantasising about "if Sunless Sea sells well maybe FBG will Kickstart an expansion pack and now that I'm working full-time maybe I'll be able to pledge at the Officer level this time and I could design an officer and he would meet a nice unicorn and they will pick flowers together on the moon." You mean I shouldn't have been leaving post-its on every available surface at work with nothing but the words "Sunless Sea" on them before now? Well, don't I feel silly...

Thank you, Fred. You know that huge nerds are more than welcome around these parts.
I hesitate to imagine what might happen on a Sleepy!Stream. I'll certainly try to be there and watch it unfold, though.
An update: We're pretty sure that we'll be officially launching at 5:30pm, GMT, on 6 February. This is to allow for time zones - Valve won't be awake if we do it any earlier and we may need their support.

If I had one request, it would be to take the biggest, most powerful engine and strap it to the smallest, lightest boat, and go vrooooooooooom.

It's true, I saw you struggling with the pirates up by hunters keep. Mt Nomad is a lot worse in comparison :P
Excuse U! :P
(Most players are muuuuch better at the game than I am. I take solace in the fact that it's because I work *around* and *about* the game all day... if I played as much as I wanted I wouldn't get anything else done. )
We've talked a bit in FBG towers about how YouTubers and streamers get on with the game. It's certainly a challenge for vidding. Tex of the Black Pants Legion (YouTuber) has done a great job; he happens to know a lot about sailing and the period so he's got lots to say that isn't about the game directly but enhances the videos nonetheless.
Our advice would be to vid with a friend. Someone who isn't familiar with FL/SS at all. That brings out a lot in the explaining/describing of the gameworld.

Usually, any game which Total Biscuit covers favourably has an immediate spike in sales.
Also watching his stream :-)

I've got the review done, as well as a couple of guides and some Facebook posts.
I uh, can't do the tattoo. Sorry.

I will concentrate my efforts on #3 and #9, as they seem clearly the most important!
