It is geographically opposite the Iron republic, and the venturer specifically says he will come back with the currency of heaven.

Are winged supernatural beings who work for angels themselves angels? I mean, canonically, there's a hierarchy of angels, right?

Judgements also work for other Judgements at times so who knows.

I didn't think about that, but you both are right, angels could work for other angels, since Judgements do the same. What makes me think of Judgments as gods rather than angels is their ability to create and control laws.

But then, I remember that in The Apocalypse by Saint Jean, it is said that "His tail swept away one-third of the stars in the sky" (speaking about the dragon), where this sentence is usually seen as one third of the angels following Lucifer in his fall.
And some angels descriptions match the Judgements : the Seraphims for one, as Alexander Feld said. The very name "Seraphim" comes from a verb meaning "to burn". The Archangels, whose name comes from "arkhè" ("the beginning" as well as "commandment") and "ángelos" ("messenger"). And the Powers, or Authorities : "they oppose evil spirits, especially those that make use of the matter in the universe, so they don't do as much harm in the world as would otherwise, usually casting and chaining evil spirits to detention places" and "The primary duty of the "Powers" is to supervise the movements of the heavenly bodies in order to ensure that the cosmos remains in order".

After reading that, I began to think that Judgements share a lot of characteristics fom biblical angels.

The Spheres of Heaven from Dante's Divine Comedy. It's quite likely whatever lies beyond the Gate are greater beings, but ones that can also be bargained with; a common theme in Goetic esoterica.

Beyond the Avid Horizon lies the High Wilderness, with "black and starry kingdoms." Possibly it could be considered Heaven... but certainly not in any conventional sense. One has to consider the cosmology of this world; the highest powers we know of in the Great Chain are the stars--Judgements-, whose light dictates and enforces the Law.

These blazing, inscrutable entities are perhaps the closest thing to angels; their overwhelming, coruscating brilliance that mere Man cannot bear to look upon is reminiscent of Seraphim, in particular.

Another interesting note is that "angel" means messenger.
She sure does. We can fight the same one in Bag a Legend, too. We don't get the best look at it in either case, but the bits we do see are all wings and teeth.
• Well, to quote the Bishop of St Fiacre's: 'The thing is, we know the devils. But when did you ever see one of the Host? Their absence is nothing less than an embarrassment.'

Funnily enough, I can't recall any other time someone in-game has actually mentioned this little theological conundrum.

It seems we know very little about the Judgements themselves, and most of that was conveyed in the form of interpretive dance.

Maybe the angels used to match our expectations before their shapely disgrace.

Perhaps, although I think the 'shapely disgrace' refers to the denizens of Axile, with their shapeling arts.

The only description I've found of a Judgement directly was of an egg hatching:
"a shining shape of many limbs, crowned with law and masked with light, a seed-fragment of a greater whole."
Would that make my Rubbery Euphonium a holy trumpet?

Hm. Also, now thinking of an angel going around playing a squeezebox extremely badly.
