I haven't played sunless sea in many months, and, with the diamond update, the forums seem completely alien to me. I plan to start a new character, and, once again, journey out to zee! Now, which direction should I go? (Just looking for hints on any new stories)

Well, if you mean that literally, Venderbight once and once only, then literally anywhere that isn't London -- the maps are randomized nowadays, dunno if you were around for that change. Try to find the place the Admiral tells you to go, I guess. Other than that, you just have to explore and find where things are. It's better to find interesting/high-reward stories rather than to try trading at first.
