I gave mine up for the secret. I just didn't have enough tears. Maybe I'll try stockpiling over the next year... Holy crap, though, NiteBrite, how did you get so much? o_O

Wasn't the Noman tattoo available to those who got drunk and got a random Bizarre tattoo? I would imagine that the tattoo itself wouldn't do anything special, but getting it 'the hard way' could very well come with some additional quality, and at the very least some interesting text.

Well, congratulations anyone who still has a Noman! If you head to the Forgotten Quarter (and have previously done the Clethermont storyline) Millicent will see you now. And you don't even need to lose your previous tattoo! Yay!

Well, NiteBrite's Noman could probably survive until next year's Feast of the Rose...

I hope she posts about any special text gained from the tattoo. The earlier tattoo deadline this year means that I will be trying to get a Noman tattoo next year - it's the one I really want. Poor, melty Alan.

Congratulations on your spiffy new tattoo, NitBrite! I admit that I'm disappointed by the text, but it is still a great achievement. Can you tell us how many points of Noman's Friend you gave SnowBrite? I think that you had 404 points at the end?

I started with 666 and ended on 404 so 262 lost.

Congratulations! I do feel like I should do the challenge myself just to change my answer...

Thank you, NiteBrite - I'm also a little sad the text wasn't more, but it's a monumental achievement.

Oh, how many Tears would you estimate that 262 Noman's Friend represented?

Yeah, my Noman survived as well, so I'll have to get a Noman tattoo (otherwise I'm wasting my time, because really, why else did I keep it alive this long?).
Also, don't think about things like that cost. (It's 53 Tears. My wallet weeps).

Wouldn't 262 translate to 26.2 tears (so 27)?
Although whether 262 is above or below the average idk.

No way! First off you start out with a free 100 points. So you only need to increase your nomans friend by like 160. Next, only ten noman's friend for a bottle of tears?? That's ridiculously inefficient! I had 666 friend on ~24 tears (or was it 26? thereabouts) and a similar amount of buckets. So about 1/3 of that should do. I was thinking like 5 to 8 tears (and a similar amount of buckets) would get you there. Here's why:
1. Use your monocle on the lacre bucket to get your first 3 points of taste. 2. Huff tears until you get to taste 11. Its like a 1 in 4 chance to use up the tears, but I got like an average of like 7 taste per tears over 24 bottles. 7 taste is roughly 21 noman's friend per tears. 3. When you hit 11 taste, cash it in on the noman card to get 33 noman's friend (its 3 points per point of taste). 4. Repeat steps 1-3 until your noman's friend is as high as desired. If you were aiming for 100+162, at my average huff success rate you would need to do this process about 5 times (265 friend). That would need (11-3)/7*5 tears which calculates out to be about 6 tears total. And 5 buckets, one for each cycle.
I waited until the end of winter to create my noman so I didn't lose a lot of friend. TTH took only about 52 a week roughly but it could have been worse (I've seen it as high as 70). So arguably possible at 6 tears 5 buckets, and all but guaranteed at 70*5 =350; 350-100 = 250, 250/33 = 7.5 = ~8. (11-3)/7*8 = 9, so 8 buckets and 9 tears.
If you have 8 buckets and 9 tears you can beat time the healer almost guaranteed assuming you start near the very end of winter and you don't get terrible luck and lose all your tears on the first huff.
Also I could have started one week later, but that would have been a risky maneuver. I was really really worried that either the wicket would close before I made the noman, or that my buckets would melt before I could use them all. So I jumped the gun a little and had to survive 5 weeks instead of 4. But the noman card is, I think, ubiquitous so its not actually hard to feed it all of your buckets in a timely manner.
Edit 1: You could make my method even cheaper by using more buckets per cycle. Buckets are way cheaper, and nightwhispers from the fidgeting writer is way easy. The only issue is the urchin card isn't super frequent - thus I had to use more tears. But the basic idea is still the same. Increase friend using taste rather than using the item directly.
Edit 2: Total cost of 8 tears (2500 echos) and 9 buckets (562.5 echos of nightwhipsers, 787.5 echos - Storm-Threnody, 495 cp urchins) is 3850 echos of materials plus 495 urchins cp. Very affordable. Compare to Bjorn's method of 53 tears used directly (16562.5 echos). My method would have saved you almost 13k echos :v edited by NiteBrite on 2/21/2015

Oh ouch. Minus 173 noman's friend this week. Time really isn't messing around with the end of winter.

Apologies for the double post.

I don't think I'll be trying for it next year. I've other ones I want to do first... But I am impressed, to no end.

Ha! The game is actively trying to mess with you at this point, NiteBrite.
I got my Crimson Book this year, so I'll be going for the Noman tattoo next year, it looks like. Thank you for all the good data!
Apologies for the thread necromancy, but I just wanted to let you all know, my second pro-strategy mentioned earlier in this thread "card-camping" totally works. You can play the ptpt option on the noman card even after you hit 0 noman's friend so long as you are inside the noman's progress card before time the healer hits. This means you get one freebie week, effectively cheating death and the laws of physics, so long as you wait for time while inside the card. Something to consider for those of you planning to do the noman grind next year (assuming it doesn't get patched... it'd be pretty easy to patch).
