So thanks to the advice from everyone on here, I managed to get both my characters all three remote lodgings and a long-box each. Hurray and thank you! They each still have a few pails left, though--are any of the other options particularly worth taking, or should I just get a back-up box/save up the ToL for next year?

If you're planning on getting multiple 5 card lodgings next year, saving ToL isn't a bad move. If you're happy with only one, I'd get a backup box, just in case they turn out to be handy...

I have ToL to 8 and a pail of snow. Is there any way to bring ToL at 9 and buy the last 5 card lodging?
I have SotC at 9, I'm banished from the Court, I have re-established my academic reputation and my Bifurcated Owl doesn't like weasels too much...

Do you have a dreadful surmise? If so, feed the snow to the wild boar (use second chances to make sure that it succeeds) and you're there.

Otherwise, you need a tear of the bazaar - huff the tear and you'll get a point, but there's a 20% chance of losing the tear (but you'll get TWO points if you lose the tear. Yay.)

Hi there! The goal of the event is to raise your level of 'putting the pieces together: lacre'. Mr Sacks will arrive on Christmas Day in the form of opportunity cards - one new card is added each day for 12 days. Once you've played the last card, you will be able to access a special location called Penstock's Wicket where you can trade your level of taste for various goodies. Depending on how far you are into the game, your options for raising your taste level may be limited. Are you a scholar of the correspondence yet?

The soothe and cooper longbox needs six taste. If you have scholar of the correspondence 10 and a semiotic monocle that's easy, but if you're early on, you'll need to plan a bit more. You can raise your taste of lacre by using pails of so called snow - you'll have got one from the advent calendar, and you'll get an extra one each week by clearing the snow from your path through the 'snowbound' storylet. You should wind up with 4 or 5 buckets by the time the holiday ends. Without a monocle, the best approach is to dip a soul in your buckets until you reach 5 taste (after this it will not raise your taste further), then play through the Mr Sacks cards. Several of the cards can raise your taste level; you can see which, and what equipment you need (if any) by following the link in the first post of the 'Christmas In The Neath' thread to the 'guide to the 12 days'. These extra points will take you to 6 taste (or higher), allowing you to get your longbox.

Hope that helps!
