I passed my challenges for POSI with +30 mood and about +10 in equipment.other then the mood card.

My stats otherwise are around 80.

I just happened to draw the card that only required me to have housing to get my credit and status, and "why" was answered by my bringer of death status (and fine piece in the game, both from the same source)...

So, now I could just open her briefcase, and do a little more, and be POSI, with stats well below 100.

This used to be the midpoint in the game, didn't it?

While having more sources for stats is useful in some challenges, and might help me pass through more things (but won't help me grind stats) I don't see much of an advantage in the extra slots.

On the other hand, I seem to remember there's a few disadvantages.

Should I wait until I authentically have 100 stats?

Should I finish this trouble with the rats, investigate this plaster face, fail to help clairthmont a few more times (nowhere near enough dangerous to brute for him yet)... perhaps even go so far as to go to court for a while?

I've got the oddest idea that maybe I want to wait until /every/ condition that would mark me as 'of worth' to be important was actually filled.

Dual everybody I can.
Hunt every beast.
Write every song, play, and opera.

Why not do it all, and really be somebody to notice.

The disadvantages are, as far as I'm aware, strictly in the menace reducing potions from the Bazaar. Unless you're using them frequently I don't see the harm in becoming a POSI a little early. It's not like it locks you out of stories.

I think I had one stat, or maybe two stats, naturally over 100 when I became a POSI and I have not seemed to suffer any ill effects (the penchant for insane screaming in the middle of the night was a pre-existing condition).

A lot of PoSI challenges are quite difficult, so aside from the gift from the Capering Relicker you might not be able to take much advantage of PoSI status without accumulating a lot of menace.

However, if Penstock's Wicket is roughly the same this year, and you can get 4-card lodgings and Notability 3 within a month or so, then you'll definitely want to become a PoSI as soon as possible, since upgrading from 4 to 5 cards is significantly easier and cheaper than during the rest of the year, when it will not only cost you a top tier item worth 1562.50 Echoes, but also require that you choose one of the PoSI specialisations, which in turn requires that you max out the relevant stat.

If your Shadowy isn't very high, being a POSI makes it much much easier to get Casing, which, when used for Thefts of Particular Character, is a great way to get very useful resources.

I would hear about this more, if you don't mind posting here about it, or perhaps send it as a PM?

The Penstock's Wicket storylet opened in January, and led to A Sundered Sea, where we could use levels of Putting the Pieces Together: the Taste of Lacre to buy various things, including upgrades from 4 card lodgings to 5 card lodgings. Which required the 4-card lodgings in question, plus Notability 3 (it costs 3 levels) and for the Sanctum one needed to be soulless.

Clearly worth the effort if you can manage it. And you should be able to, even with poor stats, because you can use the sideways item conversion loop for Making Waves, and Christmas ought to provide enough lacre for at least one upgrade. Well, assuming that you have one of those 4-card lodgings. Otherwise you'd have to spend some time getting what you need to buy one. Presumably by building Casing... through Well-planned Villainy, which would be accessible to you as a PoSI, just like dov pointed out.

Though if you do build Making Waves through the sideways item conversion, that will also give you items you can convert up to afford the discount prices for either of the 4-card lodgings. But probably not enough, so Thefts of Particular Character will most likely be needed, or heists, though those are best when you already have 4-card lodgings.
