Lately I've been working my way towards an Overgoat but I've found tracking my progress a bit of a nuisance. There is an excellent script over here that I've been using a modified version of but it's annoying to have to find said script, copy it into the javascript console, and run it each time. So I decided to simplify the process. I've created browser extensions for Firefox and Chrome (sorry IE users but your browser is too annoying and crazy) that run this script each time you visit the Bazaar page to total the value of your items and held echoes and prints the result at the top as shown below.

The Firefox extension is available here.

The Chrome extension is available on the Chrome Web Store here.

If you wish to gaze in horror upon my poor Javascript skills, you can find the source code I used to create the extensions on GitHub here.

Update 1:
It is now possible to exclude items from the total wealth calculation. On the "Sell My Things" page if you click on an item it will become transparent and will be ignored for the purposes of calculating your wealth until you click on it again. Your excluded items are remembered in the same way that your target wealth is remembered. This feature is not available if your browser does not support local storage.

Update 2:
There is now a "Reserve" button that appears beside the usual "Sell" button on the "Seel My Things" page. Pressing it lets you set a number of items that are reserved. Reserved items are not included in the "Total Wealth" calculation. For example, if I have 500 Deep Amber and I set a reserve of 100 only 400 will add their value to my total wealth.

Disclaimer
Standard legal warning. I have no affiliation of any kind with the Failbetter team. These extensions are third party and provided as is. There is no official support and you use them at your own risk. If you encounter problems with your "Bazaar" button (or any other aspect of the game) please remove the extension and try again before contacting support.

An Individual has very kindly given me publication privileges, so I'm pleased to announce that version 3.1.11, which makes FLGF compatible with the Fallen London redesign, is now available. Because the extension's permissions have changed (from targeting fallenlondon.storynexus.com to fallenlondon.com), Chrome (and possibly Firefox) will probably automatically disable the extension when it updates and you'll need to re-enable it. (Uninstalling and reinstalling should work, too.)

This is a complete rewrite from scratch, so your old reserve and target values are probably toast, unfortunately, but otherwise it should work as it did before. The source code for this version is currently available here; I'll make a pull request to An Individual's repo at some point.

Please contact me, rather than An Individual, with problems (or just post in this thread, of course), since they're my fault!

Further update. I've submitted the Firefox extension for review. Unfortunately they're taking these reviews fairly seriously so it could be up to 10 days before it gets approved. I'll post an update once it's cleared.

On the plus side, I've decided to stop resisting posting these things in their respective add-on stores so no more jumping through hoops with the Chrome installation. I've updated the first post to include links to the Chrome and Firefox add-on pages. You can start using the Chrome page right away. Unfortunatley, the Firefox page will continue to block you're installation until it clears approval.

Quick update for you guys. Firefox has updated to use a system similar to Chrome where I'm going to have to cycle the extension through their system to get a signature. In theory this should be a fairly simple process. I'll hopefully have a fixed version available on Saturday or Sunday.

I've just published version 3.1.12, which handles the Echo value of certain items that don't sell directly for Echoes (Memories of Light, for example, as well as certain slightly spoilery items that I won't mention here). Things that can be sold for Cryptic Clues, Touching Love Stories, and Identities Uncovered! are handled; please let me know if I'm missing something.

I seem to have gotten behind in replying here so here's a quick run through the backlog. I apologize in advance to the people who are going to miss their response because I was too slow.

fallingkitten wrote:

Unfortunately this is one of those "it works on my machine" scenarios. I've been using the extension regularly for both browsers and haven't noticed any issues. My best guess would be that your security settings are blocking either the popup or the use of local storage. If the "Reserve" options are remembered between browser sessions then the popup is more likely. Unfortunately, I don't have time to dig into this further without being able to reproduce it on my end.

rahv7 wrote:
Thanks for the extension. I've meant to install this for a long time and was surprised that I could affort an Übergoat right away if I wasn't such a horder.

I noticed two small issues you could fix if you feel like it:
1. If item names are very long ("Bottle of Fourth City Airag: Year of the Tortoise") there is a placement issue where the "Reserved"-label displaces the "Sell"-button
2. If I reserved a certain number of an item and sell the excess, the "Reserved" label + button vanish. Everything is good again if I reload the page.

I'm using Firefox 43 if that's important.
Again, excellent work, thanks for the add-on.

The name thing is annoying issue I hadn't noticed. I'm not sure what I can do to fix it though. Next time I can carve out the time to look at the extension I'll see if I can come up with a solution. Unfortunately, the second issue is just a side effect of there not being hooks for me to put elements back in after the sell button triggers a replacement of the element. It may be a nuisance but it's one we're kind of stuck with.

Nanako wrote:
this looks like a pretty excellent mod, i have a small request

A Mass Reserve setting function would be neat. I'd like to reserve 1 copy of every single item i have, because collecting is nice. doing this manually is a bit of a pain

And also, having set all of these values, it might be nice to have a mass-sell button, that would sell off all unreserved items in the inventory. And/or, an individual extra sell button for each item, that would automatically sell all unreserved amount of that particular item (or at least prepopulate the quantity field in the sell dialog, with the correct amount)

great work though, ingenious
edited by Nanako on 2/16/2016
edited by Nanako on 2/16/2016

Unfortunately, neither of these features are things I'm keen to do. The mass reserve feels a bit niche. It's something you probably only need to click once and, at least in my case, I'm usually either reserving specific values or setting aside whole stacks in which case it doesn't really come up. The mass sell is a whole other can of worms. It's edging a bit too close to the kind of automation that violates the terms of service for my comfort (in particular, it results in hammering the servers with a rapid series of requests).

Parelle wrote:
I know this sounds counter intuitive, but could you provide an 'actual total wealth' to give an idea what's available including those reserved items? I've reserved enough items it would be rather tedious to uncheck them.

This is actually something that's been annoying me to. Every now and then I want to know that full number including the reserves and I have to switch to a fresh web browser to get the number. I can't promise time lines on anything here but next time I get a chance to look at the extension I'll see if there's anything I can do to facilitate this.

Just a quick update for those of you using Firefox 57. One of the forum members helpfully flagged that the extension isn’t compatible with this version. I’ve submitted an update and it will hopefully be working again shortly.

Update: The new Firefox version is up and I have confirmed that it works. Please let me know if you encounter any problems.

Looks like the 10 day estimate is just a safe number in case you submit a large extension. The Firefox extension has been given the green light and you can now install it from the Mozilla add-on page here (also linked in the first post).

For the time being, it's possible to re-enable the extensions that Firefox disabled without so much as a by-your-leave by going into about:config and setting "xpinstall.signatures.required" to false. They're apparently going to remove this workaround in a future update. Presumably because they have drastically misunderstood the primary reason people use Firefox.

For those who are interested, I've updated the extension to include a "To Target" value below your total wealth. You can click the "update" button (see updated screen shot) to set the amount of echoes that you are working towards and this field will tell you how many more echoes are required to reach your goal. The extension remembers this value and will update to reflect your progress each time you visit the Bazaar.

The updated version is available from the same links in the first post. You should be able to install the new extension over top of the old one by repeating the install process. If that doesn't work uninstalling the old extensions first definitely will.

Note: The value is remembered by your browser's local storage. This means that if you switch browsers or computers you will have to set the value again in that new location. It is also possible (though unlikely) that you are using an older browser that doesn't support local storage which means you will have to re-set this value each time you visit the site.

(Yes, the extension is active).

The first thing that I'd try is using regular browsing instead of In Private browsing. It's possible that that is disabling the local storage stuff that the extension relies on for remembering settings. If that doesn't work, try what Sara Hysaro suggested. If it still doesn't know let me know and we'll troubleshoot further.

Edit: I ran a quick test and "In Private" browsing does appear to break the extension. If I have time I'll see if I can do something to keep the extension functioning with reduced functionality under these conditions. In the mean time you'll have to use regular browsing for the extension to work.

Chrome has, since, tightened its security considerably.

Follow these steps:

1) Get the Chrome file from http://ithinktoomuch.ca/downloads/extensions/flgf-extension-chrome.zip
2) Extract the .crx file from it
3) Rename it as a .zip, extract again to some folder
4) Delete the _metadata subfolder and the .pem file
5) Go to chrome://extensions
6) Enable Developer Mode
7) Click "Load unpacked extension"
8) Select the folder you extracted the .crx to
9) Don't forget to reload the Fallen London page

2. If I reserved a certain number of an item and sell the excess, the "Reserved" label + button vanish. Everything is good again if I reload the page.

I'm using Firefox 43 if that's important.
Again, excellent work, thanks for the add-on.

It's possible people have forgotten that there is an actual devil in the actual Lord Mayor's office. A devil who is promising to look after people's souls. What is wrong with everybody?

Further update. I've submitted the Firefox extension for review. Unfortunately they're taking these reviews fairly seriously so it could be up to 10 days before it gets approved. I'll post an update once it's cleared.

On the plus side, I've decided to stop resisting posting these things in their respective add-on stores so no more jumping through hoops with the Chrome installation. I've updated the first post to include links to the Chrome and Firefox add-on pages. You can start using the Chrome page right away. Unfortunatley, the Firefox page will continue to block you're installation until it clears approval.

No worries. Glad to hear things are moving along (even if that's at their own pace.) Besides, I'd rather there be a thorough review process albeit a slow one, rather than them having a flimsy review process that increases the risk of any addon I use being malware.

I look forward to being able to try the Firefox extension sometime in the next couple weeks! ^_^
