"Write a lewd satirical song about the Grand Hunt of the Devils" at the Singing Mandrake gives 1 CP of Wounds and Scandal each!
Edit: Ocelot, you're quite right, it's 2 CP Scandal

Rupho Schartenhauer has killed a Master, well: most of it.
Cortez the Killer has killed a Master, definitely.
Deepdelver has become the progenitor of London's brightest star. It's... complicated.
Dr. Kvirkvelia, gone NORTH on 23/12/1894.

Thanks--the wiki says 2CP of Scandal, not one, though? It's 3 actions, anyway, so.

While it's incredibly expensive and has prohibitive requirements, you can study the Correspondence at the University to raise wounds. I believe it gives 1-3 CP.

cheshster, quite true--if you're going to do that, now might be the time. (I maxed that out by holding a Fate-prereq card in my hand . . . )

I say, if one of you ladies or gentlemen requires a starveling cat I do seem to have an extra one knocking about. Do be classy and send me a note if you would like it.

For people in the middle of the Face-Tailor fate-locked content: after you make it through that door and are given your task by the man behind that door, you can ask that man about a certain book for a free, reliable way to give yourself Nightmares.

It's too late now, but in case this is useful for next year (or for people with a backlog still), I forgot an option I really liked.

"Attend and speak of... terrible things" at the Duchess' salon gives 4 (4!) CP Nightmares on a success, along with 1 CP Scandal, 1 CP Unaccountably Peckish, 1 CP Duchess, msc rewards. Requires Unaccountably Peckish 2 to unlock.

I regret to say I constantly forgot about this option.

Is that all the requirements needed for that to show? I have Peckish 6+ (she's a hungry lass for sure) and a week or so ago that option disappeared.

You need it under a certain amount. So a little bit, but not too much.

Please do not send SMEN, cat boxes, or Affluent Reporter requests. All other social actions are welcome.

Are you a Scarlet Saint? Send a message my way to be added to the list.

*shoves some chestnuts down her gob* Et voilà! Thanks so much, Sara! I just figured that got eliminated in the wake of recent changes. Now I can terrify people with my haunting tales again!

Ooooh, that is good to know. I adore that storylet, but it's such an effective Nightmares raise that I usually don't play it more than twice (and usually after losing a CP or two of Peckish to opportunity cards).

Another tiny side note: "Play with your Giggling Mandrake" is a storylet accessible from the mandrake, not a card (making it quite convenient; typically you can get from zero to three wounds in three actions, assuming you're unlucky each time). Same as the starveling cat basically.

Also, out of curiosity, has anyone figured out precisely which setup was most action-efficient? I think the IRC room came to the conclusion that's it's Whimsy via items at 5 actions (all to increase Suspicion from 1 to 3), with Pride coming in at 6 actions via playing with starveling cat (because you can't get the first Wounds point free).

I found it far more interesting to play a variety of menace storylets rather than go for the most action-efficient options, but when it went down to the wire with such a short confession period. action efficiency became a little bit more important...

Wouldn't that be
1) sporing bonnet on, off, on (0 actions, nightmares 1+1)
2) starveling cat twice (2 actions, nightmares 2+1, wounds 1 and 1 subpoint)
3) play with mandrake twice unlucky (2 actions, wounds 3)
for 4 actions most of the time?

xKiv, but since the Starveling Cat is non-trivial to come by, people may prefer Whimsy. Anyway, I've updated the post with a tl;dr section discussing this, thanks for the suggestion.

Psssh, I got 5 just by hoisting the black flag while grinding my Experienced Zailor to 20 (which is the current cap). Non-trivial my cat wink
No, I am not unleashing them on others.

I've got a spare Starveling Cat, if anybody wants it! (I take no responsibility for its actions once it has left my home, though).

Edit: adoption completed!

Nah, if you'd like to hold on to it, I'm glad it's in a good home. I still have one.
