I can't figure out how to make observations in the new Steel combat system. Can anyone enlighten me?

You can't.

Is there really no way? I killed a lorn fluke earlier, and one of the looting options required 30 observations. Then again, the only reason I could fight it and survive was because its attack seemed broken, so the observations thing seems equally likely to be a development oversight.

I do miss the observations mechanic. That was a very failbetter thing to include, and it fit my natural philosopher character. Perhaps if they could include a button for that, which could fill alongside firing solution... At a slower rate, likely.

Have to agree. Maybe they can add a command or menu-bar option to observe (rather than fire on) a target?

Have it be a button where the timer moves faster the closer you are to the target, and hitting it resets all your other combat buttons.
