Transferring Saved Games: Concerned

I bought and played a ton of Sunless Sea on my laptop while I was on a work trip for several months. Now, I have returned and was wondering how to properly move my character and/or saved game to my desktop. Is there a way to transfer saves through the Steam Cloud-thing or is there a file I simply copy and paste into the proper folder?
I'm worried about my fabulous Yacht, I've only just got the poor thing out of dry dock.
