Will playing in two builds at once break my save?

Many of us have two copies of Sunless Sea, the Steam version and the Humble Bundle version. And the Humble Bundle version is sometimes in possession of a more recent update than the Steam version. Will playing a save from a later version of Sunless Sea in an earlier build break anything important? I do like Steam as a games launcher, a tracker of how much time I've played, and a way to broadcast what I'm playing to all my friends, but I also like checking out updates as soon as they come out.

Don't worry about this. The Steam preview builds were out of sync with the HB builds back in beta - but now we've launched, they will be in sync on both platforms.
(In fact, HB might run slightly behind because they upload files manually, but that's a matter of a few hours).
