I really like the idea of hull armor. I can imagine new zee captains really getting into blinging out their ships with intimidating spikes and plates until they could barely lumber around. (The cheaper options are ALL about the spikes. Some of the SPIKES have spikes.) And the more experienced captains rolling their eyes and sticking to good, solid, metal plates (...okay, maybe one or two spikes... tasteful-like. :p)

But there would have to be enemies that ignore it. Lifeburgs would just eat it as seasoning.

Hmm. Wonder whether my bugs/issues have been noted already?

- Post battle: Require 10 observations to unlock the option, but it speaks of three or more giving you something.

- Had 2 crew, terror at 100% and nothing happened. Thank goodness.

I rather like the hull armour idea myself.

That happened to me too. I think it must be a gap in the 100 Terror events; not enough zailors for a mutiny but you don't get drownies unless you're by yourself.

On combat: Remember the evade option. At high veils it reduces your illumination by *a lot*, which can give you a few extra turns. Last time I fought lifebergs they needed a distance of 40 or less - use the option that lets you get away and you're good.

After 24 hours of playing time, mostly on one character, I feel it's time to give some feedback, about what I didn't like.
Others have already talked at length about the economy and my others points of displeasure with the game are there because of its unfinished state.

One thing that I really dislike is Observations and Fragments acquisition.

Observations are, as of now, in need of a serious buff. You have to risk a lot to get them, unless you are decisively more powerful than you opponent, you have to risk hull, crew, death but the rewards are miserable and in a case hurt you more than what they are worth: the Bound Shark
If you defeat a bound shark with 10 Observation you get very few Fragments and terror, you actually get more points of terror than Fragments.

It's also get a little ridiculous with the yellow, starting crab (I can't remember its name): if you get 10 Observation you get 1 Fragment and if you obtain less than 10 you get the message about how you just got 1 Fragment. It's a little stupid.

Considering how much combat is dangerous and difficult, as you are risking to get one shotted by pretty much anything more than Bats and Pirate Steamers you should get a little more Fragments if you manage to control you Illumination long enough to get 10 Observations, which is not that easy if you didn't start out with the Urchin' bonus to Veils.

Other than exploration there are no sources, reliable or not, to gain serious amount of Fragments other than Events at ports, which makes gaining secrets and thus leveling those stats pretty damn difficult.

Other than this, I actually love the game already, from the setting to the art style, from the stories to the mechanics.
It's just needs to be refined a little, and I can't wait to see how it will become in the future months.
Stellar job, Failbetter.

Yeah, I agree; Observations should give out a lot more Fragments if they're going to be worth trying to collect in combat, and it's ridiculous that observing the Auroral Megalops gives you 1 Fragment whether you succeed or fail. I mean, seriously, you don't even get two fragments if you successfully obtain 10 Observations instead of throwing in a single observation move before salvoing it to death? But in general I don't think the current Fragment rewards would even be worth it if you were able to get twice as many Observations per move. I only use Observations on weak enemies that normally can't hurt me because then they still won't kill me if I take three times as long to kill them. I tried doing it to tougher monsters and except for one time with a bound-shark it just made me die every single time.

I use Observations in spite of the weak gameplay rewards, though, because what I'm really after is the snippet of lore that comes with it. But on the other hand, once I've seen that snippet enough times to have the text memorized, the mechanical result has to be worth it for me to keep taking that option. Even with my decision to only observe weak enemies, I generally only go to the trouble once except with the very weakest of enemies (the little yellow crabs).

Well, I finally got a longbox Big Grin The Station III content is SPLENDID! Probably my favourite content so far. It went by far too fast though, and I fear I might have locked myself out of most of it by following the wrong threads in my visits.

I loved the story very much, but I feel that when it resolves it all does so rather abruptly. Once you reach the part of the story where you are asked for assistance with a specific (and personal) long box, it all fires at once, and then there's no chance to go back and finish some of the other lines of questioning.

I'm not sure how you would spread that out, but it does feel a little like you're given a brief glimpse into a very cool story only to have it taken away.

Not so much a complaint as "this is fantastic, please let me play with it some more" Big Grin

I have chosen not to take that option with my current captain, after doing so with an earlier one and everything disappearing, so far all the stories are still there and I am being very careful not to click that one when I am at Station III.

Sorry RL means I am not a very active player at the moment. No social actions unless you are prepared to wait and definitely no sparring or other mult-action things.

No Calling Cards or boxed cats please. Will take dupes on the affluent photographers. Other social invitations welcome. Parabolan Kittens usually available, send me an in-game social action saying you want one and I will get one to you as soon as possible.

*nods* Sadly all I saw was a shiny new option, so I followed it, and bam, no more Acolyte. I'm trying to keep this captain alive as long as I can, so I guess I won't get to see the rest of it until I start a new game. Ah well.
