I am in a curious situation right now. I have just started Investigating the Stones venture and realized that my Investigating... quality was already at higher levels. I have one unfinished venture (two, to be precise, but the second one is based on Fascinating...) and that is Intrique: The curate and his sister, which is also dependent on Investigating... So, the game uses accumulated value for all the ventures of the same type? And what when I complete one of them?

When you complete most stories using Progress qualities generally all of that progress will be used up. That's why I like to finish those up before moving onto anything else. An exception to this is Casing in Thefts of a Particular Character. That will consume a specific amount of Casing, so it's fine if you have a surplus. It won't be wasted.
