Converting them (from jade etc) with the Tiger Keeper in the Labyrinth. That's how I got my expeditions supplied.

Two useful pages for this sort of thing. Personally, yeah, grind up jade elsewhere and barter with the Tiger Keeper. You can also attend courtly functions, which also raises Fascinating..., or talk to the Thing in the Mirror, which is useful since you'll also be grinding up jade during Coil2 of the Labyrinth.
