Not always. "Write a sharp note and send the flowers back" will lose you a Hell favor if you have one, but you don't need one to play that option.

I'm curious what option you're talking about.

I'm almost certain everything on that card says how many favors are needed. In order to hide that, it would have to leave it out of the branch requirements, which would let you spend more favors than you had.

Everything that says it requires X favors will cost X favors. I don't think there are any exceptions, and if there are, just allow yourself to be pleasantly surprised if you click on one and don't lose the favors.

There are only a few options in the game that have "This will cost X" instead of the regular branch requirements, mostly in the Bazaar Side-Streets. They have the annoying quirk of not showing how much you currently have and not mentioning the loss and new total in the result, and apparently fixing that was so complicated that Failbetter opted to just stop using that feature instead.

Journal, as an idea, is great, but in the current state, unless you're looking for something you echoed a few days ago, is not very useful. I think it would benefit greatly from a search function. To reread a result I echoed some time ago I have to search the web with site filter on, using quotes from wiki.

I did wonder whether the cost of previous Exceptional Stories could be adjusted.

I mean, I can understand the higher cost for say the first year, but they cost 45 Fate, which is £7.92, and - especially in a lockdown world - a pretty steep cost. Like I say, I get that it's to persuade people to an Exceptional Friendship, but - especially as this comes with extra unique perks in itself, like the invaluable extra 20 actions - I thought maybe some lowered cost (or maybe periodic "sales") could be given to older content.

If say after a year or two, or during an occasional "sale", prices dropped to £5.00 (or even say £6, so as to keep the incentive to subscribe), it would make content a lot more accessible . . . I'm not on staff to know if it's feasible or not, but it feels like 5 people buying at £5 is a lot more profit than 1 person buying at what's basically £8.

On a totally different note, though -

Unless I've just not gotten far enough and there's a spoiler reason, it'd be great to see the Wandering Gondolier become a spouse option, too.
