An acquaintance of mine has written this cool book: http://www.queensferrypress.com/books/pagesfromthetextbookofalternatehistory.html -- which itself might interest folks around here. But, more than that, he's doing a contest where you could win a $50 Amazon gift certificate and a copy of the book, due out in September, for sending him a compelling alternate history premise. You might have heard that I am building a Borgesian library of alternate history stories, or that I am constructing an Escher stairway out of books that write themselves, or that I have reprogrammed Deep Blue (the chess computer that beat Kasparov) to calculate every algorithm of the possible. The rumors are all true, or half true. What you may not know is that you too are a part of this vast collection of stories. I have been hoarding the alternate history stories shouted at me in public, slurred at me at the bar, whispered to me over the pillow. I have dwelled on these alternate histories, and I have become covetous of them all. Please send me a short write-up of a historical episode that you have imagined turning out differently, and if chosen for mention on my website you will receive a free signed copy of the paperback (upon its September release), and the grand prize winner will also receive a $50 gift certificate to Amazon.com.

You can find him on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=728150111 and send him your alternate histories there, or via email or twitter. edited by Otaara on 1/28/2014
