Fair enough, I suppose. It gave me an excuse to unleash my Jack of Similes persona. He's like a murderer, but with too many eyes!

You have an ocular toadbeast as a Jack of Smiles? Oh the humanity!

Do any of the ending branches yield the Jack's Gone quality, which has shown up in a few other places?

The fate option does, and I assume destroying the workshop does as well.

Jack of Smiles, no. Jack of Similes, yes. Jack of Similes is like an Ocular Toadbeast because they both have too many i's.

...I would be one card away from advancing for three days, wouldn't I?

When that always happens, I prefer to think of it not as 'you not being preventing from advancing for three days', but rather, 'i'm saving up karma for acquiring a Salt Weasel! Or some other rare challenge.'

Perhaps I gamble too much on fallacies..

What exactly does the "Are they talking about you?" quality do? I've gotten cards that raised it to 3, but I haven't seen it used anywhere yet, despite how long it's taken to get the cards to raise my Jack of Smiles case quality a bit. Are there cards I should be looking to draw? OR should I just wait and see and continue trying to remember Jack?

I think you need to raise this to at least 2 to get to the next step of the story. You need to keep trying to remember Jack, but when you have enough of that, you talk to the Inspector, and need ATTAY of 2 to get sent to the next locale.

IOW, you're good.

Quick request: I took the second Fate option (the one in Polythreme that didn't require me to do awful things), and unfortunately a computer crash (my computer, not Failbetter) meant that I didn't get to read all of the ending upset If anyone else chose this option and has the ending, could you PM me? Thanks.

Well, I'm on to the next stage of the hunt for Jack, but the ATTAY quality never came up at all. So I'm not sure what the hell it was for. Hope I didn't miss anything cool. smile

For a brief moment, it was a requirement to progress from 9 to 10. You could get it from some cards, but those seemed to only be available to fate-path people? And then the requirement was removed.

Or so it seems. They couldn't decide how to use those cards and that requirement, it didn't quite fit together.

Social invitations of all kinds welcome, especially games of chess and deadly sparring!

Also happy to help with nightmares, send sips of Cider, and plant battle.

I hate you. And also love you.

"... the Bazaar is pleased with stories of love. The Bazaar has... appetites ... the unnatural vitality of the first customer's lover ..." HMMMM!!!! I seem to remember someone saying, long ago, "In the deepest matters of the Bazaar, always look to love. Always." Someone whose lover had an ... unnatural vitality.

Checking: I built Jack-of-Smiles case to 10 through cards rapidly after talking to the Inspector the first time, and then without thought abolished the Squad. If I were to go to a certain overzee place, would the story resume? It seems to have vanished from Ladybones Rd.

Yes, destroying the workshop, then reporting to the quest supervisor, results in Jack's Gone, and some rewards.

IIRC, the Squad is not necessary. One could advance the storyline entirely through faction cards, to the point where Zee travel becomes relevant.
