Had one ages ago and sold it for a night with the stallkeeper's... I mean, for boots.
Only afterwards I found out what I needed it for.

It's initiated by the recipient- if you have everything you need to begin the expedition to the Nadir except the Skull, there's an option to request one from a friend.

This is a bit of a tangent: I have been into the Cave, and returned several times. At present, since I have Route 1+ (I have 4), and 60+ supplies, and 0 skulls, the option to ask someone for a Skull reappears. This seems... well... inconsistent. Am I missing something here?
