My condolences, Ocelot!
I'm at 63 Noman's Friend after Time The Healer came today (it got a substantial boost from a bottle of Tears last week) and at 12 Noman Knows. At the rate the card is popping up for me, I should be able to get it to 15 pretty soon.

Because this will instead give you a bucket as he melts and remove all your Noman Knows, so even if you preserve his life a little longer, you've still gone from 14+ Noman Knows to 0.
Moral of the story: don't do things when you just woke up. Wait, so you can save him with a Tear at 0? But not with a pail?

I didn't have a pail at that time, so I don't know.

Okay i have a question here. A sidebar says that Smiles often hides in snowmen. That raises a few alarming questions 1. People build snowmen out of LACRE?(well we DID build one but y'know) 2. Is it possible we might se a lacreejack later even if we have a statue already? 3. Can we be sure there are no jacks who survived past the normal time? edited by Dmitri Zhiriakov on 1/16/2014

After all, it's an "unusual pail of so-called snow", and I believe the description says it's somehow different from the norm.
2 & 3. In a fictional world, anything is possible. For example, Doctor Who has wiped out the daleks about 500 times - and they still just keep coming back again.

I just saw Spacemarine echo what appeared to be the "premature end of the Noman" result and seemed to indicate a reward of an Elemental Secret. He might be able to confirm that if he comes by here.
I could be totally off my rocker but it definitely involved some lacre-being melting that was not a Sacks. edited by Shadowhand on 1/19/2014

Yes, thats pretty much the long and short of it. My Noman is Nomore, and that was the only reward of the whole business.
rip
Though it was probably worth it both as an experience and as a reward. I didn't use any Tears on it, though. edited by Spacemarine9 on 1/19/2014

I must say, though, the text seemed pretty interesting, unless you lore-masters think it's all been said before.

I'm very close to get 15 noman knows, and I have still a week before Time the Healer comes again (last time it took 33 of my 40 points of noman's friend). When I do get to 15, Friday or Saturday, I will post my success, if it can be called that, here and echo the storylet to my profile. I'm so very close. My poor noman dosn't condivide my happiness alas, poor thing.

I "cashed in" my Noman as well. Somehow failed to echo the result (It keeps happening!).
All I want to say is: The reward is substantial, as noted already, and the piece of lore is a nice confirmation of a thing or two we knew already, but I kind of wish I had things let take their natural course.

Time the Healer came so I just got dropped to 0 Friend at 14 Noman Knows but unfortunately you cannot feed the Noman Tears of the Bazaar. It is impossible to perhaps not out of the story and you can't use items when you are in a story. So I am going to have to say goodbye to my Noman.

You can use items in a storylet. It just gives a warning not to.

On no - I didn't know that so just said goodbye to my Noman. All that for one confident smile and a small magnanimous increase.

If it's any consolation, you would have just traded one item for another of equal value; indeed, perhaps the reward is of lesser value, as Tears have several uses at the moment.

Time the (insert disparaging rhyme of 'Healer' here*) just visited, and took exactly enough of my Noman to melt him. So, I went ahead and saved him at the last moment with Tears. As you say, it may just mean that I'm trading one rare item I have a couple of for another rare item I have a couple of, but I couldn't let him go without seeing all that Fallen London has to offer

I think I must have upset the RNG recently. In 24 hours, not a single Noman's Progress card has shown up. Is its frequency still nominally ubiquitous?

One of my Nomen died quietly: I flipped essentially every card available in the 18 waking hours/day over >2 weeks and only got to Noman's Progress 5. Sic transit gloria aqua frigia.
