Not sure how relevant this is, as it has been said before, but I was steaming (zteaming?) around Sunless Sea, and I went to the Avid Horizon (the end), and in its storylet description was the following: "Two vast winged shapes guard a gate of something like resin, smooth but uneven. It is deep gant - the colour that remains when all other colours have been eaten." What, exactly, is on the other side of the gate is not specified, but as is said, some fool may open it, and it is entirely possible that it may be opened from the other side.
Edit: I just noticed something else in Sunless Sea that sheds light on this. In Venderbright there is a very old, and almost not-present, tomb colonist that gives you a quest to go find the seven impossible colours, so our spectrum does indeed look like this: Apocyan - Cosmogone - Gant - Irrigo - Peligin - Violant - Viric Whats more, this quest also gives a little description of each of the colours, and the description of Viric is as follows: "Behind your mirror, V names Viric, the colour of shallow sleep." Also, probably less helpful, the quest has little icons for each of the impossible colours, each icon with a quite possible colour, probably the closest comparable one that can be seen elsewhere. The colour shown for Viric is an almost perfect jade.

The fact that your description of Viric is spot on, and that it came to you in a dream is, frankly, quite startling. If you have any more dream prophecies, please share them. edited by brenden208 on 12/22/2014

On the connection between Eaten and Parabola
The Northbound Parliamentarian mentions that the Name was taken and hidden behind a black mirror. The Fingerkings are associated with mirrors of black glass. A treasure from the Expeditions mentions that Parabola's inhabitants are the antithesis of the Judgments and that dreams thrive in the Neath where the Judgments cannot see. One of the Hallowmas Destinies mentions the honey-roads between dreams and Parabola, and Wines' and Spices' quarrel over them after "their colleague was cast down". Dreams were Candles' domain. The storylet where the Fidgeting Writer dreams about the God-Eaters gives Touched by Fingerwork. It's implied elsewhere that they made a deal of sorts with the Fingerkings to become what they are. Probably irrelevant: The Mirror-Marches, a Nightmare menace area, is an outlying area of Parabola. Mr Eaten has 999 Watchful.
edited by Valerien on 3/1/2014
A quality related to SMEN is "Marsh-mired in dreams of sustenance". Doesn't Marsh-mired refer to Parabola/dreams? (Or am I confusing it with the Mirror-Marches?)
Also, regarding 7 Neathy colours - I'm not sure why everyone's so surprised. There are 7 colours on the traditional Surface rainbow.

I was interested in learning more of the colors of the Neath. A Zee Captain of my acquaintance had come across a tome with some information on these strange colors and passed them along, and now I pass it all along.

The way I picture peligin in my head is pretty similar to how Stygian Blue looks if you can trick yr eyes/brain into perceiving it [see, e.g., https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Impossible_color#Chimerical_colors ]. I'm still kinda figuring out the rest, that's the only one that's like "duh, yeah, I see that color in my dreams for sure."
Or, I mean... I know what viric looks like but I absolutely can't describe it at all. edited by bitterhorn on 3/7/2015

I think these are two of the most important things when discussing the nature of the colors of the Neath. I never knew there was a name or actual way to describe "stygian" colors, but I think it fits almost perfectly. I think, for the most part, that's what they are intended to seem like. Descriptions of the Correspondance have always given me the impression that that is a part of what it is like to look upon them, except far more terrible. I think it may not be a stretch to say that most of these colors of the Neath might act similarly.
Also, the way you "describe" viric is perfect. You know it, but there are not mortal words with which to describe it adequately. As if it were perpetually on the tip of your tongue, but in some ways a fleeting memory, a fleeting description that eludes you. Something not of this rightful world, who's even description does not belong here either.
These are precisely the elements that we should be considering regarding the Colors, and many other things, within the Neath. edited by Mogwok on 3/7/2015
