Riley, many of the people posting in this threat were frustrated, and in that frustration, neglected to consider how they might make their posts useful to you. But since you are yourself frustrated and have consequently posted something more likely, uselessly, to give offence than to make people want to help you, I am sure you will understand.
Nonetheless, here is a list of the known changes. Summary: the Nadir will no longer pay for your goats, but remains profitable and worth visiting. [spoiler]- Tears of the Bazaar, worth more than 300 Echoes, used to be freely available to anyone who drew The Catafalquerie. That option now requires Putting the Pieces Together: The Taste of Lacre 7 and reduces it by the same amount. Since that quality can only be acquired in limited quantities and at this time of year, this is not a particularly attractive option. There are two new options on the card, one of which seems to give a set number of Extraordinary Implications. The other gives a number equal to your current Nightmares, and doubles said Nightmares. Someone reached Nightmares 32 in this way.
- A new card has been added which gives items worth around 60 Echoes at the cost of three Second Chances: Searing Enigmas, Pulsating Amber, Collections of Curiosities and Airag. As a result the Nadir is still profitable, if much less so than before. It also has the incidental effect of gently depleting players' stockpiles of Second Chances.
- Tears of the Bazaar can be acquired from the Portly Sommelier. The price is seven bottles of Airag. He may also sell something truly rare to the very Notable.
- Tears of the Bazaar are usable. They can be used to increase Putting the Pieces Together, but may be consumed in the process, and are unlikely to increase it enough to buy another bottle.

That explains why I found myself in a rented sleep-pod off of Ladybones Road, stinking of long-chain monomers, and trying to find a buyer for three and a half tonnes of hot punch cards. Wearing mirrored pince-nez.

Very depressing news for Boxing Day. After all the work to get into the Nadir it's now not worth going to - one potential searing enigma isn't worth all that stat loss to me.
Such a shame as I used to really look forward to my weekly visits and I kind of feel like a big, exciting, atmospheric part of the game is now lost to me. edited by Elnara on 12/26/2013

I'm rather upset about this. I know that the Tears option was very good, but it was something you could only do once a week, and it was never guaranteed you'd draw the card to begin with. Not to mention - we'd had it for so long that we've taken it for granted. If it was going to be nerfed, I would have rather seen it nerfed at the outset - to do it half a year later feels like a punishment, not a correction. Now it costs a considerable amount of a quality that can only be raised in one month of the year - and is by no means easy to raise, even then. I don't really think I'll be visiting the Nadir anymore, since the only other card that validates the stat loss is the Unlikely Garden, and I only have about a 6% chance of success there.

Yes, and since you need 7 Lacre for one Tear, but one huff in five will lose you your tear... this gamble really is not in you favor. So do not huff substances produced by eldritch structures, I repeat, do not huff substances produced by eldritch structures! Long term huffing will bring you nothing good.

Someone else apparently got it as well. Not entirely sure what's up with that! play it repeatedly until you get SMEN 9

I've played the card already, but I'm pretty sure there was also an option that unlocks with 5 Fecund Amber. Does anyone know where to get that? I think you might get one for trading in the 5 Diaries of the Dead, but I'll have to wait until next time when I'm better prepared to find out
Only time a Fecund Amber has come into play so far was the Feast of the Rose; when it started last year, having a Rubbery Spouse got you one. Might be that trading in the diaries gets you an amber, or perhaps it's a different option entirely.

Riley, your post asking 'hey guys what's going on' was perfectly valid. The way you phrased it - sounding angry and insulting at everyone for not providing you with a succinct summary - was not. I mean, I have no idea what you meant by hipsters, but that didn't sound like a compliment.
Anyway, I'll be visiting the cave again because I want to check out the shiny new things. I'll reserve judgement until I've felt out everything. My initial ;~; has mostly gone to 'ooooh shiny' at this point, with a bit of lingering ;~;. edited by Laluzi on 12/27/2013

Eh, the other items are nice, but a lot of the cards in the nadir are little to no profit at all. The Tears were a great, motivating reward in the ether of the opportunity deck. A 62.50 reward that takes ten actions to claim or a 12.50 reward doesn't really justify the stat loss you undergo.

If you value your stats, consider leaving the Nadir when your Irrigo is five or less. That will limit your losses to at most five change points per stat, while still allowing you to draw between five and eight cards. You will probably draw at least one which justifies the visit.

I just ventured into the Cave to see this change for myself (I'll admit, I find it extremely disappointing), and there is at least one new card there called "The End of Battles". It has four options, each requiring 3 x Second Chances. I tried one and it gave me a Collection of Curiosities. So, there is that, I suppose. edited by Ether on 12/26/2013

You can use tears to get Taste of Lacre back now, but only as far as 10, and there's a 20% chance that you'll lose your tears.
So I got back to Lacre 10 using that, but I was at Lacre 15 when I discovered that opening the lacre casket with the note in it about lacre would make me forget half of what I knew about lacre (15 -> 8). It'd have been nice to have a warning on that, at least...

How recently is "just"? As far as I know, it was just changed today. Possibly a few hours ago, even. It does apparently at least warn you that it's about to drop Taste of Lacre by 7 points now.

I was there two hours ago and it butchered my Taste of Lacre... maybe it's already been changed back? Or something else is afoot.
if it's been changed back i want my taste of lacre back :[

I was in the Cave a few hours ago, with six Tears and Taste of Lacre at 3. I drew the Catafalquerie but wasn't able to play it due to my Taste quality being so low. Hopefully I just hit it during an unfortunate period and it will be back to normal next week!

It does seem like there are new cards being added to the Nadir, though. Not as nice as tears, perhaps, but still pretty neat I guess.

Ok, got the card again, the one with a Fluke. It looks like you can trade a bit of Watchful for a warm amber, some identities uncovered for trembling amber, diaries of the dead for fecund amber (probably?), and fecund amber for who knows what. I think I'll be making a rather large purchase at Crawcase's before my next visit.

Indeed, pretty much all the new content from yesterday seems to mention either Chains or Sequences; the Sommelier, huffing Tears of the Bazaar, the day's Mr Sacks, several of the new Nadir cards... I wonder what it all means? It all sounds faintly cyberpunk to me, for some reason.

I was able to get two Tears of the Bazaar in my second to last expedition to the Nadir. I was really hoping this would be the key to an Over-Goat. Three hundred plus Echos a week was the plan... oh well. The worst part is now I feel like an ass for selling my Fourth City Airags with such regularity. Again, oh well.
The Nadir still holds relevance... "Woods in winter" still makes a trip worthwhile to me. Still unsure why it sometimes increases "Dramatic Tension" though.

The card still exists, but getting Tears unlocks at Putting the Pieces Together: the Taste of Lacre 7 (and you will lose 7 points of the quality).
