An interesting side tid-bit revealed in a recent conversational prelude to tattoos. I'll be oblique (since I'm not sure how stringent the Fate revelation and banning is), but there was a specific tid bit of information revealed in discussion with a particular lady of a particular color that was... intriguing to me, and that directly references the sale of the Second City. I suppose send me a PM, as I'm leery of being dodgy about revealing even such tenuously Fate-locked content.

I just found a pice of information regarding this issue when researching a bit of history at Polythreme. The whole entry is here
http://fallenlondon.storynexus.com/Profile/John~Vazquez?fromEchoId=3412956
Apparently, the first ship to arrive there was carrying the Pharaoh's daughter.
Come to think about it, this raises more questions that it answers... is this daughter the Duchess or one of her sisters? Did the King come in the same ship or before that?
What is really interesting is that a character we thought as secondary might in the future be a source of more information that we expected. I am looking forward to come back to London and deepen my relationship to Lyme!! (if he is the one they are talking about)
I had missed that reference to Lyme. There's also a good bit of content in Grumping Fen which may be worth a look-in again if you're still in or around Polythreme. The fen has long memories...

re: "Even the First City was young when Babylon fell", there's a nursery rhyme that makes me think of. It may have little relevance, but it's interesting.
"How many miles to Babylon? Three score and ten. Can I get there by candle-light? Yes, and back again. If your heels are nimble and light, You may get there by candle-light."
Which, if relevant, opens up intriguing speculations as to the use of candlelight pre Mr. Eaten being eaten: as a transportation device, possibly, not just a source of light. Add to this that what we all do whenever we play the game and use actions is eat up a candle - until it grows back, and is re-eaten, so on and so forth. Eaten may not just be eaten, but is being eaten.
but pre that digression, Babylon is a place one can get to. How many actions does it normally take to get to Polythreme once you set sail?

Actions to get to Polythreme vary depending on your luck, but 70 change points can't be too far off. It's definitely a long way -- two full zee voyages, effectively.
I'm still down for the Bazaar being the Tower of Babylon (among other things).
