It's a thing for Seekers, allowing them to opt out of the quest at any time should they decide they don't like Seeking anymore.

Everyone is being given info about the Mr Eaten. If you sign up to suffer, acknowledge that yes, they really have warned us, it's not just in game atmosphere, you get a status in inventory to remind you that you've done so (I'm assuming it's also a content check, you can't seek without it). It promises ... ... such pain. :-)
