Huh. When I looked earlier these were still locked. The stat requirements seem a little off to me - the Watchful one tells me I need 203 and the Persuasive one says 197.
I just saw that the Persuasive one requires the Parabola Linen Suit. I've "upgraded" mine at the Cave of the Nadir and now it doesn't count towards this any more. That's annoying, but no matter - I shall probably go after the Watchful one anyway.
Still it'll be some time before I qualify for these as I'm still repairing damage to stats done by Seeking. Shame since I somehow have Notability 6 at the moment. Might not see that level of notability again for some time.

I believe Flyte underwent great trials to earn place at the right hand of Lord HatKitty and it is such that his tailness deserves our noblest exaltation. Candidates may or may not have been required to produce apposite quotations from Borges, and I may or may not have chosen this:
The Basilisk dwelled in the desert; or more accurately, it made the desert. Birds fell dead at its feet and the earth's fruits blackened and rotted; the water of the streams where it quenched its thirst remained poisoned for centuries. That its mere glance split rocks and burned grass has been attested by Pliny. Of all animals, the weasel alone was unaffected by the monster and could be counted on to attack it on sight... The seasoned traveller was careful to provide himself with either a caged rooster or a weasel... I'm more than happy to discuss community interaction, by the way. Perhaps I'm biased, but it does seem to me that we have an unusually open and informal relationship with our players. It helps that we have an unusually lovely fanbase; we've had 70 or 80 emails about the Fleeting Recollections bug in the last four days, and almost all of them were polite, understanding and pleasant. Thank you.
The limiting factor on individual interactions here on the forums is, of course, time. Alexis is the owner of a small company and the parent of a small child. He's also a writer and a game designer and, this week, a conference attendee.
And here's a partial list of my responsibilities:
- Putting together ad campaigns, monitoring their effectiveness, and iterating accordingly.
- Coaxing our databases into answering useful questions like 'At which points in the game are people most likely to stop playing?' and 'What sorts of content are they most interested in paying for?' This is rather harder than it perhaps sounds.
- Managing our social media presence.
- Putting together access codes.
- Gathering feedback and implementing whichever bits we consider both practicable and desirable.
- Testing new content and features.
- Maintaining and publishing changelogs.
- Responding to support emails and fixing bugs, when they're not in the underlying tech.
- Sundry one-off tasks like marking answers to the Mysteries, but mostly less visible.
- And... talking to people on the forums.
I suspect this speaks for itself; but, further, as has been said in this thread, it isn't really me people want to talk to. So I think I should be concentrating on finding cost-effective ways to advertise, so we don't go bust; and responding within 24 hours to support emails, as I almost always do, except on weekends; and providing regular, limpid and reasonably entertaining updates on Facebook and Twitter, so more players see them; and interrogating the qualitative and quantitative data, so we can make the game better.
I will, of course, continue to post, at more or less the same rate as at present. But I wanted to be open and transparent about the reasoning behind my current level of engagement. As for Alexis... I confess I've been gently encouraging him to post less, because time spent fielding a question about, say, whether becoming a Paramount Presence is possible yet is time almost everyone would rather he spend writing more content for FL or Sunless Sea.

In the tradeoff, we even got the addition of Flyte as a liaison. I can understand how it feels less satisfying to have distance placed there. The fact that it's invoking an emotional reaction is in itself instructive.
If it would help, remember that the game is still "in beta" and there is much still in the backlog. Perhaps focus your efforts on an area with more definition, and trust in time (and the wicked books) to deliver.
Oh, I know, I'm not complaining.
Well, I sort of am, but not in any manner that should be taken seriously.
All non-serious complainers will be defenestrated. You do not wish to know the punishment for serious complainers. Merely be aware that even the Tiger Keeper shudders at the thought of unleashing me.
... Apologies - I appear to be typing up my fantasies again. What I *meant* to say is: I suspect FB/HatKitty sometimes choose not to respond, rather than neglect to. Were they to reveal all about everything, there would be unreasonable expectations set, mysteries might be less mystie, and they'd be constantly monitoring and replying here rather than doing the creative work we're actually here for. Flyte isn't a replacement for HatKitty, nor has HatKitty gone completely. I don't think a non-answer here is due to an absence of cat or a presence of weasel. Some questions just aren't answered, yet.
Um. WherewasIgoing? Lost! LOST! I think saying: there is no tradeoff, more content, still FB interaction, but they never answered all. They have always been teases, whipping off veils to reveal burkas, and so on. Ask questions, but don't feel forlorn when they go unanswered. (In short, despite what was said at the time, I don't think much distance has appeared. We are as informed. Tigers are just more attractive than Weasels. {Sorry Flyte. It's the tail.}*)
Edit: *I may retract this. This is a good tail. http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-3gizMn849hs/UHdBrqAdY4I/AAAAAAAAHK4/r2TVOBc97Xo/s1600/Long-tailed+Weasel.jpg Compare: http://scienceprojectideasforkids.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/08/tiger-tail.jpg (Don't search for "tiger tail" on the internet. My main qualities cost 60 CP to raise, not 50. But yes, I noticed that at least my formerly capped Watchful now costs 70 CP to raise. I guess I might just throw my Sudden Insights at it so I'll have a reason to play chess again.

I thought the same thing when I noticed that I'd need Neathglass Goggles to hunt down a magician for Mr Inch. But then I remembered the nifty thing about upgrading items in the cave: Their sell value doubles, so you can sell them back at the same cost and buy the original item with only the loss of the Action and opportunity card spent in the cave. Or just upgrade and sell after you're done with the item. So it's no big deal, really. Not like having to pay a lot of Echoes that you'll never see again.

Having a reputation will do something on the Unsigned Message soon; namely, it'll let you boost your stat *above* the stat cap using Notability. It's impossible right now though.

Inky - social actions! Particularly grinding suppers to increase making waves.
I've hit 200 on persuasive and am now going for watchful. I think the other two will be slower because I don't have as many second chances there, but I want to see if any options unlock when I'm maxed out before I make my choice.

Sir Fred The persuasive one says - "Note that you need either a Frock or a Suit, not both!"
I think I'll probably go for the dangerous option myself, if I ever get my stats and Notability high enough.

Hover over the POSI icon - there is a list now A Significant Individual A Paramount Presence A Shattering Force A Legendary Charisma An Invisible Eminence An Extraordinary Mind
I think the first one is what we have now, the last four relate to the different stats and the Paramount Presence is a mystery, unless there it is going to be a signifier of all 4 stats.

I am now an Extraordinary Mind.
By the way, I personally hope that A Paramount Presence isn't just 200 in everything. It takes away the fun of choices and specialization if there's a super-option that just encompasses everything, you know? I have no idea what else it could be, though... edited by Little The on 12/27/2013

People with Reputations of some Importance; check your lodgings out! Soon there'll be a thing to use Free Evenings to Tutor people, wow cool.
also i've been an extraordinary mind for a couple days w/e. im not sure compiling all the people with Reputations is going to be worth the effort, 200 in one stat isn't actually that hard
