70 Expedition Supplies should be enough for "A cautious approach", since you're likely to only need to deal with one rival, and get "A sign?" or two or three from all that rerolling of Airs of the Forgotten Quarter. For Watchful and Second Chances, see my edit to my previous post.

I'm going to go the other way and say you might as well gather 100 supplies before you go on the Nadir run, if only because 1) You burn 10 supplies each time you "perhaps not" out from February's challenge, so it's good to have a buffer; and 2) Any leftover supplies can be used on quick runs of the lesser expeditions anyway and thus aren't going to be wasted. On the other hand, if you do run out, you'll have to go find another skull, and that's potentially incredi-annoying. So you might as well just grab 100 supplies then go.

ON the other hand, I do recommend going to Nadir as early as you can. Going Nadir about a month before I went POSI really helped me fund a lot of the immediate post-POSI content and I was able to get my orphanage and carriage set up inside a week.

Can you guys tell me how many skulls I need? I have one, but I get the feeling that I'll need more than that?

6 will make everything easier (as you'll be able to convert the 5 into a Ray-Drenched Cinder), but 1 is perfectly acceptable. There are alternatives if you don't have the patience to obtain 6.

How easy is it to get skulls? I remember grinding out seeking curios and secrets for days and only ever getting one.

I think they're pretty rare.

...but you can ask other players for one of them.

(You may have to make a good offer)

Hmm, I'm not particularly wealthy since I became a POSI only a month ago. I don't plan to go to the nadir too soon anyways so its not a pressing concern.

On the general subject of expeditions, has anyone gotten 7+ correspondence stones? There are supposed to be 7 of them if I'm not mistaken.

I always thought the item 'Correspondence Stones' was the full set of 7.

When I went looking for my five skulls I got one every 1.5 days, and I didn't spend all that time wandering the Forgotten Quarter. A rough estimate is that I got one skull every 100 Actions, and according to the actual odds, that seems about right. It's a really good idea to collect all the skulls while all the main qualities are below 75, since all you have to do to get rid of a skull card is to equip a Talkative Rattus Faber. Going to a special card zone (Pickpocket's Promenade for instance) works for any level, but is clearly not as convenient.

And yes, as I understand it, the Correspondence Stones are a set of seven stones in the form of one item.

I don't believe you, and I demand proof. Evidence. Exhibit A. Forthwith! wink

Seriously though, the Expedition Supplies are deducted way down on the list of results, and using a Sudden Insight halts the effects right after the Watchful gain from failure. I started with 99 supplies, because I didn't know, and why not play it safe? According to my screenshots I entered the confrontation with Archaeologist Progress 51, and that may have been after two "A sign?" and one attempt to hinder February. I'm pretty sure I had to "Perhaps not" out at least once, and pay the 4 Actions again. In my success screenshot I had 46 supplies. So:

    99 (start) - 51 (progress) + 9 (free start point and two signs) - 1 (hindering) - 10 (confrontation) = 46 supplies

If I had just been a bit luckier with the Rivals' Progress I might have made it all the way, but right after I hindered February I suffered a few quick gains of Rival's Progress, so all the goods I used in my attempt to hinder was wasted. Hindering her twice would have been an option, but since confronting her once costs 'only' 10 supplies and gives 3 Archaeologist's progress and deducts 5 Rivals' progress, it is more cost effective counted in Echoes. (Basically paying 7 supplies for -5 Rivals' Progress, whereas hindering February costs 10 Echoes worth of goods for -2 Rivals' Progress.)

That said, I'm certainly not going to discourage anyone from bringing as many supplies as they can. I just happen to be pretty confident that going with "A cautious approach" doesn't demand more than 70 supplies (assuming 100% success rate). And should it demand more supplies anyway, there's a special code that can give 10 more supplies, and if that isn't enough there's Fate.

  • Now that I read the description again, that does seem to be the case.
