Hmm. Has anyone who hadn't previously been visited by Time, the Healer found that they are now being visited after getting Acquaintances? I don't actually know what triggers that, and am wondering whether to expect to be able to send Christmas cards from an alt after all.

I would like to stick my head in and repeat Mr. Overstreet in saying that we have a thread for requesting acquaintances. Carry on. edited by OPG on 12/4/2013

This could cause a wave of Persuasive increase until most or all regular players reach the cap. On another hand, if there is an advantage to having more Acquaintances, and no downside, and if one can become Acquainted with every other username, then it's just another grind, and loses any meaningful connection with other players. Much as, well, if you are a Friend of *every other Facebook user*, then you no longer have a useful map of who actually knows whom. Some people value the distinction between "we have traded thoughtful messages" and "we're good for a trade of healing actions" and "I once saw their name somewhere on the forum". Some do not. Some people like to keep Victorian flavor in their inter-player messages; some do not. May the incentives for each playstyle allow other playstyles to still enjoy the game!

I am a bit confused about sending christmas cards. I don't see the option to do so anywhere.

Acquaintances are supposed to be capped at 77, though clearly some people have accidentally beaten the system.

The folks who have gone over Influence 77 will just have to snub more people when we introduce other things you can do with your Acquaintance slots. :-)
Of the 2000-odd users who have at least one acquaintance, here's the breakdown of acquaintance numbers after a few days
| 71+ | ... | 1.4% | | 61-70 | ... | 0.3% | | 51-60 | ... | 0.5% | | 41-50 | ... | 1.0% | | 31-40 | ... | 1.4% | | 21-30 | ... | 1.4% | | 11-20 | ... | 4.2% | | 3-10 | ... | 22.7% | | 2 | ... | 15.5% | | 1 | ... | 51.4% |
NB that 2000-odd is quite a small minority of our active userbase (somewhere around 10-15%, though it depends on how you define 'active'. So the vast majority of our users have no acquaintances at all! but of course the mechanic has been out less than a week, and it'll filter out to less frequent players (we do have users who log in a few times a month).
Of course even a blurry picture like this is immensely useful and interesting to us when planning social narrative. And it mimics the patterns that show up all the time on the web: little local friendship networks, with very socially active individuals linking those mini-networks together.
A couple of takeaways I'd point out to you guys:
(i) If you're even reading these boards, let alone posting, always remember, you're probably in the minority of very engaged players;
(ii) if you're reading or lurking on these boards and thinking OMG how did these people get to 70??? then don't worry. Very few people have more than a handful of Acquaintances.

That puts things in perspective. I now understand why the Quality Level Description for Influence 4 is 'A Well-Connected Individual'. Are there any ways in which our feedback tends to skew consistently away from what would be likely to interest the broader player base? If you've noticed any patterns, it might be a useful thing for us to know.
On an unrelated topic, people who betrayed me non-reciprocally at Hallowmas: please continue sending in your calling cards. I promise to at least lightly personalise the mix of maledictions and seasonal well-wishings which will accompany your snub.

Thanks for the statistical breakdown; it's very helpful, as is the reminder that those of us (such as yours truly) who play so fanatically is small; clearly, I need to get another life...outside of Fallen London. :-)

May we assume, then, that being connected to 77 people will provide no greater benefit than being connected to 3 would?

Don't click it, it doesn't do anything and still costs you an action.
