By a startling coincidence, we've just sent an email out. You do indeed get it if you
(i) have an email address linked (ii) have 'message me with announcements' ticked (iii) have never clicked 'unsubscribe' on an email (it's one-click perma-optout)
For reference, we mostly use these channels to announce stuff:
- Twitter - Facebook - newsfeed on Messages page - forum posts - in-content announcements - Failbetter blog - mailouts
(+ Sunless Sea KS and blog)
....that's roughly from most to least frequent, which in turn is roughly from least to most hassle, since we could easily spend more time announcing changes than implementing them.
People always miss stuff, so the more channels you follow, the better! If you follow other unofficial fan channels too like wiki announcements or SN's tumblr, better still. No one channel is reliably followed by every player, so we like to get people signed up to as many as possible.

This. It takes us sixty seconds to send a message via FB/Twitter, it takes considerable faff to do a nice mailshot, it costs us some quids and we never do it more than twice a month (usually only once a month) because people complain.

I'm wondering--we'll have to see in the future, but methinks there could be some sort of pattern to the gifts, unless they're just doing a "go 'round and cover the bases" for various things in FL.
But I am curious--so far, the gifts seem to relate to getting favors from organizations in Fallen London, simply on a story basis. It's only two data points thus far, though. We'll see if Day 3 holds up...and if so, one wonders where the gift-trail will end up...
Also, I'm enjoying the word amalgamations in the codes.

Hm, it seems I never linked my email to my main account. I WAS getting messages by mail from the game a long time ago (but I think it was via Twitter). And yes getting "Once again, a masked figure drops a tiny brown package" every day was annoying. Then it stopped. Did I stop it? Don't remember. Will setup everything again and see what happens.
Writing on Twitter sure is easier. That's why there are so many messages on it. Wish there was some built in way to create feeds there (like circles in Google Plus) Did not know it cost you money to send out mail.

And while FL's tweets are fun to read, reading them in a timely fashion is a problem. I get a ton of tweets on my Twitter, half the time I can't manage to read them all. So unless I go specifically to FL's twitter (which I do, but only once in a while to catch up), I often miss those tweets.
I have my Twitter set to send me a text message of the tweet everytime the Echo Bazaar account posts. Haven't missed one yet.

You were getting Iron Tokens every day, when the Bronze League just started. The pace in the beginning was insane. I both miss it and at the same time glad that I don't have to wake up to five people piling up on me, while I slept. Second K&C. I never played the first.

There is! I have a small list of people whose tweets I don't want to miss and I keep the Bazaar on that one. I use tweetdeck, but it's easy enough to access your list from web Twitter or your phone.

You just go to their Twitter profile and turn on mobile notifications. You can do it for any Twitter account. You do need to let Twitter know your cell number, but that's probably not a big issue.

I've never seen this thing before, and I am such a collector of oddities, I'm thrilled with it! Best gift yet! *cradles it gently and gazes at it* ...*clock ticks*
...ok, bored now. I'll just leave it here on the bookcase with the correspondence research and see what happens :p

No kidding, I had been grinding for the necessary books, and this will rather save me the trouble...assuming the particular method of acquiring it doesn't prevent the living story from triggering.

I had no idea that there was the option to breed new ravens by feeding them things. I think I've got a new item on the to do list now.
At least this one - which is rather expensive - is taken care of for me now. Yay!

Since I didn't get a message that one was started, I'm going to assume that one wasn't started, and won't be started unless it's started by the usual method. Which would require the usual investment.
Then again, the game did act slightly different this time. I open codes in a new tab, where I get to see the login screen with the initial text and image, and then switch to my already open tab and reload it to see the screen that reports what I received. But this time there was no such report screen, and when I logged in through the other tab it said that I had already used the code. And I found the report among the messages. So maybe there was a living story started, and it prevented the usual report screen from appearing?

Stick around, folks. There's an alternate way to get the Egg started which you'll happen across with luck.
