Hey, I just redrew An Unsigned Letter (still have Notability 4 after becoming a Correspondent), and I noticed that the old options for trading in Notability for stat boosts are gone. All I can do at this point is try to solicit a gift. I was hoping to go slip a note under the Ivory Door with my remaining points, since I don't expect the next tier of professions to appear anytime soon. Alas!

The Notability stat increaser option on the card does let you overcap the stat you've specialised in, yes, it's not a bug.

Before attempting this, make sure you've done all you'd like to in the Cave of the Nadir, because it absolutely does steal away your over-charged stat upon leaving, just the same as the other stats. I learned that the hard way and lost a level, but it seems like way too much work to get back to Notability 15 just for one lousy point that no one can see anyway.
But I know. *sigh*

Yes, it does, but I rather foolishly hoped that 215 had become my new limit, i.e., I would be able to get back to that point by using normal actions. But nope, I still got, "Shadowy has not increased: this quality cannot currently increase past 200" mocking me ever since. I was just giving warning for anyone who might wonder the same thing.

Ah, thank you Lady Taimi. I would indeed have done that very thing without your warning.
So if I were to increase a stat to 215, each use of the Cave Of The Nadir would gradually erode that stat back down to 200, yes?

Yep. It's best to wait until you're done with the Cave of the Nadir before getting that boost if you want to keep it around for a good long while. I won't say forever because there are other things that can lower your stats, but the Cave of the Nadir is the main drain on stats.

On my 'very very long-term' list - probably a.k.a. 'Things NiteBrite will do first'  - is "get all 4 stats to 215 and see whether that does in fact unlock a Paramount Presence." But it's one heck of a grind.

I can confirm that with 9 notability and a watchful of 201 using the unsigned letter set my watchful to 209. I did this just a couple weeks ago in preparation for a final sprint to Courier's Footprint.

You can do it repeatedly, but if the stat is already above 200 it's only reset to 200 + Notability. At least as far as I know.
