Glass or Shroud? Messages in this topic - RSS

Hello,

as many of you before me, I have now decide between Glass and Shroud... without asking for any spoilers, is there anything I should know about the two ways that could help me make the decision? I.e., one is more interesting story-wise and/or has more long-term reverberations, one is better for one kind of character and the other for another kind (defining the two kinds), etc...
I would be just curious to have more bits of information!

Thanks!

Both of them have equal rewards, equal paths, and neither of them has any long-lasting implications (The few long-lasting implications that exist go off of your "Embroiled in the War of Illusion" quality, so the choice is not important, just the fact that you make it is). Also of note, while choosing not to sabotage on either path seems like the "nicer" option, you'll wind up with the same connections in each at the end regardless of your choice. Sabotage means more loot, but of course it means spending actions doing the sabotage.

So, it all boils down to theme. I can't speak very well for this because I am HIGHLY biased towards the Glass. Their work just seems more "real" to me, while the shroud seem more like simple con-artists. Of course... maybe you're the kind of person who would oppose the magic of the Glass?

I went with the Glass, as a lady of Science, and seriously, the cats from the Shroud were dic.... very rude. I went with bats, I love my bats.

If you plan to seek a certain name, then Glass is the way to go. Be forewarned, DO NOT SEEK THE NAME! DO NOT GO NORTH! NORTH!

The honest answer is that we really don't know yet. That story has been on ice for quite sometime and after you pick your side, that's the content wall. If you're really antsy about it I would suggest you hold off on picking sides until you can get a better sense of what is in store, but I believe that both sides will pay off singularly and evenly, so go with whichever side you feel is most apropos for your character.

In an amazing feat of courage, some time ago I decided to accept the warning of the Masters when they sent me a certain letter, precluding (forever?) myself the possibility of seeking that name...

Thanks for the comments. I was a bit afraid of an unbalance between the two paths because the presence of the Touched by Fingerworks characteristic made me suspect that the Glass would have been more interesting.

...What does the Glass have to do with seeking the name? I know there's an option to start it at Mahogany Hall, but that option is outside of the War of Illusions.

After having reached the content boundary for the War of Illusions on the Glass side, there's an option at the Saturday show that can provide progress in that quest, if one's hunger is sufficient. (An Unaccountably Peckish challenge that provides 1 cp in the SMEN 3 -> SMEN 6 grind, at the cost of some Tales of Mahogany Hall and increasing all of Wounds/Nightmares/Suspicion/Scandal)

The option under "comedy of the absurd"? I was under the impression that siding with the Glass was not a requirement.

It's a Saturday option, under "Another Night of Magic." Which Saturday storylet you get depends on your side and where you are in the story, and that one is Glass-dependent.

I believe the "Comedy of the Absurd" option just starts you on the journey.

By the way, isn't it possible to play both roles simultaneously, as long as you don't sabotage any show?

No, it is not. Once you do one final show, your connection with the other one drops to 1: Just as if you hadn't done any sabotage.

I want to get involved with the Glass since I've heard it helps with the new content in the Forgotten quarter. But I've chosen to make use of Cats. Am I locked with the Shroud now?

No. You can choose your aliiances once you get to Mahogany Hall.
