I have been kicked out of the University, but in order to embark on a scientific expedition, I need to have a Cultivating An Acquaintance With His Amused Lordship of 3. The problem is, my persuasive is, well, dismal at best. Is there any way to begin this without having to grind for stats?

Nope. You're going to find that you'll actually need all the stats, so the best thing to do is to just grind up your off-stats as soon as you can, because you'll find that there are more and more things that you can't do.
