Is there any reliable way (not cards) to reduce my suspicion?
Thanks in advance.

If you can climb your way up to the Flit and are in good with dear old Topsy's gang they can help you out in return for a sack of rats. Handily enough, Topsy himself will hand out a few dozen rats if you make him laugh. For all this, you do have to be moderately shadowy of course.

there's the instant ablution solution, though I don't think there's any stories that reliably give it, so you'd have to buy them from the bazaar if you are in a serious hurry to cleanse oneself of blame.

Ah, since Andrew mentioned 'instant ablution', there is of course a sure fire method of clearing your name...
Simply allow yourself to make mistakes and for the constables to gather enough evidence against you that you find yourself once again in a stalactite cell. Serving your time will remove the stain of suspicion from your reputation.

Lily mentioned working with the Topsy King and that's good although if you have lower shadowy you can shake off the constables by blackmailing a detective or hiding in a rookery. This action is available at Spite in I believe the mid-30's-40's range for Shadowy.

Thank you all for your solutions! I don't want to get back to that cell *shudder* and don't want to spend too much money, so I guess that I'll go with the Flirt solutions. I just need to train my Shadowy a bit because I completely neglected it.
Thanks you all once more edited by Voodoo Master on 4/2/2012

There's also a suspicion reducing social action you can do when you have at least 3 suspicion. Each time removes 5 CP of suspicion, easy way to tell how many requests you need to send out is to take your menace level and subtract 2.

On a related note, is there a reliable way to reduce Scandal? It doesn't seem to have a corresponding potion, so aside from rare opportunity cards or asking friends for help, how can one reduce Scandal to avoid the tomb colonies for now?

If one is becoming the topic of too much loose talk, one may always improve one's reputation by going to church... Though it may take some time to acquire results when the priest continually mentions you in his sermons.

Good to know~ Although I do hope none of my infernal friends decides to tag along. That would be... unfortunate.

Asking friends for help is probably the most reliable method I believe, and folks looking to breed animals for fun and profit may actually want to visit the tomb colonies to pick up a Tomb Lion. You may feel free to use these fine folks as a dupe to greatly reduce your scandal. Also, if you have at least 15 "Making Waves", you can spend most of it to reduce ALL your scandal. There are a number of other ways to reduce it scattered here and there as well: One I know of is if any friends have a newspaper and offer to interview you, that will reduce both suspicion and scandal.

A note: Ablution Solution now reduces Scandal as well as Suspicion.

I would usually just go back to Spite and use the "Confound the Constables" action in "Opportunism". You'd have to get the right amount of Airs, but you could do something else to change that.

Since this thread has been brought back after a couple of years for people to see again, and I don't think it's been mentioned here:

Simply allow yourself to make mistakes and for the constables to gather enough evidence against you that you find yourself once again in a stalactite cell. Serving your time will remove the stain of suspicion from your reputation. Letting your Suspicion reach 8 (and being sent back to prison) will cause you to gain the 'Criminal Record' quality. As it increases, it makes Nikolas & Sons Instant Ablution Absolution (a name which I constantly forget, and had to copy+paste to get correct) gradually less effective; and once you've been sent to jail enough times that item becomes completely useless.
Please do not rely on being sent to jail as a good way to reduce Suspicion, unless you want to be unable to use the Instant Ablution Absolution to help reduce your Suspicion/Scandal.
I wouldn't bring this up, except that I know of no way to remove or reduce a Criminal Record once you've got it - which means it does have permanent consequences. Not *immediately* dire consequences, to be sure, but best not to let your Suspicion go unchecked. :-)
