Fellow ladies, gentleman and creatures of various sorts,
Since I have trouble in finding similar topic I apologize in advance if there is one already;
I realize that making waves quality is best obtained by promenading through salon that i eventually obtained, but since the opportunities for such activities are rare in busy life of fallen city, I am searching for best alternative ways of raising this quality and yes, eventually my notability. So far I am having frequent dinners with dear friends at my lodgings, but I hope there is more efficient way. Thanks in advance!

Well, if you still have access to the Empress' Court all the three options in the Life of Mind storylet provide 1 cp of Making Waves, and slightly less than an Echo in various goods. A slow system, but very dependable. Watch out for the third option (the philosophy one), it has a rare success giving an amount of Fascinating... instead of the usual rewards, so you should either avoid it, or start a Fascinating venture first, so it won't be wasted.

That's the reason why I don't even think to get into the Foreign Office. Pity to lose content, but knowing that in the future there could be a Profession requiring Notabilty 5 means I'll try to keep my relations with the Court as polite as possibe ^^

Apart from that option I don't remember any repeatable storylet giving points of Making Waves, but many Opportunity cards now come with a small Making Waves increase in addition to old rewards. First coming to mind are attending a church-fete from the Church card, or buying rouds at the Rusty Tramp from the Docks one.

    hohum. not sure anyone posted this yet, but for those who don't have a salon or don't care to get a salon or orphanage, it looks like some of the 50-to-50 item conversion will give a random amount of making waves(should be 1-10 CP, can't find any data on it). worth looking into if you happen to have lots of 3rd-tier(?) items you want to convert.

    btw, the honey dens in veilgarden now give 1CP in making waves when you convert 50X 1879's for 40X prisoner's honey. less annoying than going in and out of the empress' court.

    Also, converting wines to honey in the dens of Veilgarden, and completing heists and expeditions. I do not know the exact amounts, though.

    heists and printing newspapers can be profitable, but can take up an awful amount of actions before you obtain MW as a sort of bonus for completing them.

    i'm still of the opinion that expeditions are ridiculously time-wasting and expensive for the items obtainable at the end of the line... with or without the MW rewarded. i remembered my corresponding stones didn't used to take so much time to find. just buying your way into the university might be faster if you're not focusing on your watchful stat.

  • Further to this comment, if you're like a new POSI me and you're still working on the salon/orphanage and the newspaper, the equal tier item conversions are a really handy choice.

    You can do a full run of them, like a carousel. It takes 14 actions for a full run and gives you a bonus of each item you convert to as you go along. I took my Making Waves from level 4 to level 9 in 14 actions, so I was pretty happy!

    Lady Godiva is an inescapable, sagacioius, terrifying - yet captivating - lady, who consorts with devils and dissolutes; spies, scholars, urchins and outcasts; she has not yet recovered from the blow to her reputation after that unfortunate affaire at the Empress's Court - though she will manage it, or die trying (possibly repeatedly). She enjoys discussing cutlery and waxworks with other enthusiasts.

    It's even a bit more effective than that. The full carousel takes just 13 actions (not 14). And in this cycle there are 4 conversions which give Making Waves. It's a random amount, but seems to be in the range of 1-10 CP - let's say 5 CP of MW on average. (of course, these assumptions might be wrong)

    So, for 13 actions you get an average of 20 CP of MW - or 1.53 CP per action (plus the extra items along the way).

    Just succeeded on the Bohemian Scandal-for-MW card, but MW is noted as *falling* (see screenshot if I have figured out the Image loader here). Huh? smile

    Hm, doesn't that option give a variable amount of Making Waves based on your Scandal? Maybe 0 Scandal means a loss of Making Waves.

    I get Suspicion +0 CP after most of my heists (from not having lost any Cat-Like Tread), and then it says "dropping" even though it doesn't actually drop. So I'm assuming the same applies to having no Scandal and therefore receiving no Making Waves from that rather decadent evening.

    Perhaps it should be reported as a bug though? Because it is kind of misleading.
