I was going to ask this here, and then I wasn't, and now I am. A few months ago, I doodled out a knitting pattern with Scarlet Stockings of Dubious Origins in mind. They'll sort of be keeping with my EBZ mitts, upon which I have knit the Echo sign on the palms because I'm easily amused that way.* I think I've found the perfect yarn, which is absolutely scandalous in its scarletness, but it has a slight tonal quality which plays with the depth of the red. If there are any knitters here, or if you simply have an opinion on the wearing of stockings, here's my quandary: I'm torn between knitting a vividly violet froth of ruffle at the top that will drape over garters (or if I slouch them a bit, over the tops of my boots) or keeping the ruffle separate and confined to the garters themselves. They're equal in their respective pros and cons as far as I'm concerned and there's no real deal-breaker for me. As such, I'm curious about what people who know what the SSoDO are think, re: this ever-so-important matter of ruffles on stockings vs. garters.
Oh, and I know the Stockings aren't actually characters and thus possibly this is not the right sub-forum, but it seemed an equal stretch to take this to the fanfic sub-forum. Feel free to kill this if I've chosen incorrectly.
*Also, knitting a Correspondence symbol on them seemed likely to invite my hands to burst into flames.Edited to mention these aren't fancy dress. I'll be wearing them for whatever: work, errands, instigating outbreaks of pearl-clutching. The usual.

Looking at the image, the tops are perfect, in a way that they would not be with a separate garter, considering the individual legs and stockings in question. This to me says stocking top. Besides, these are fakes, cheap knockoffs (the subject material, not your project!), and not the real scarlet stockings, where a garter would be more appropriate.

Definitely stocking top ... and I truly believe the Correspondence sigil is a MUST!  ...just interweave a bit of kevlar...
