Ladies, gentlemen, others, you're a clever bunch and this one's probably the first answer that comes to mind. If you wanted to manufacture an improved goat, where would you start?

...there you go.

'Only the goatiest strivers may attain me.
Maybe you must first acquire a herd of Overgoats?

That reminds me of an idea I had for an FL user script. Called 'Lotus', it was to grant users a Herd of Overgoats; when equipped, all those distressing failure messages would be replaced by reassuring bleatings, lovingly crafted from the finest goaty onomatopoeia. Naturally, it was to rigorously conceal Menaces, and refrain from informing the player of any exiles, boat trips, or other unfortunate episodes.

I trust you'll accept my assurance that I was only dissuaded from this laudable venture by the discovery that user scripts were forbidden, and that it did not occur to me on April First.

I already spent three months grinding for a goat and I'll be damned if I'm doing it again, unless the Ubergoat vomits Nex and Dreadful Surmises and tells you the secrets. All of them.

In the mean time I'm just going to slam my head violently off of various things in a Goat Manufacturing Facility in the hope of finding something.

Is there a tool still that tells you how much your stuff is worth? I don't have enough, but I'd like a rough idea of how much I need to grind to get it ...

I think the new bazaar redesign might have broken it, but I never really used it anyway. And I guess the ban on userscripts has halted development of it forever, so it's highly unlikely it'll ever be updated.

The alternatives are selling everything you own anyway and seeing what it tallies out to or doing Actual Mathematics with like, an abacus or something. Maybe count on your fingers.

"If you wanted to manufacture an improved goat, where would you start?"

I would visit a goat farm and ask the breeder questions... Oh. Ohhhh! Really, goat husbandry? Uh-oh, you need at least 2 to perform the goat tango...

To confirm Alexis' credibility, I'd like to inform you folks that there is indeed a temporary option named "A kindly wish" when you consider offering the Boatman a sacrifice.

Not if it's a wing-of-thunder batgoat! Which would probably get along just fine with my Ratgoat. Rhyming partners.

I think it's kind of unlikely that you just breed it with the Bat, though, unless it has some extremely arbitrary requirement like exactly 3 uncanny inacunabulas, 0 watchful, 66 persuasive, 102 shadowy and 180 dangerous and it only works at Airs of London 104 or something.
I just don't want to believe it requires two goats. A second goat which is only 50% better at being a goat is lame and i don't care enough to spend another few months for that.
It's like trying to find a needle in a haystack! If the needle is instead a very thin, fair blonde hair, and it's hidden inside a universe composed entirely of hay.

Then what? You combine those two to create a Bratgoat! So that you may fully experience the ordeals and joys of parenthood with an adolescent kid. wink

I don't even have plans for my first goat yet. For me, there's still oodles of fun things to be done. I can't currently spare the actions for any goat with all the new content out. Not a bad thing at all.

I'm certain people are gonna try it, anyway, because as the phrase goes, "I've got nothing better to do right now while I wait for new content".

And now to ruin Alexis' credibility, I'd also like to inform everyone that my alt is stuck in Boat Trip limbo. Despite having 0 Wounds, he hasn't drifted back to the land of the living...or at least Fallen London. This is only a tiny, eeny, teeny bit of a bummer for me, but everyone else should be cautious. It's a good thing he's my Seeker alt and accustomed to random water trips.

EDIT: Suspected Wounds might have been at a negative integer, so I played dice with the Boatman till I lost. Normally, losing would raise your Wounds and prolong your stay on his creaky vessel, but it reset my bugged Wounds or something. I was sent back to the city. Basically, magicks happened and all is well again.

I don't really have anything else to do while I'm waiting for new content either, besides juggle notability and keep it at 4. But I'm not grinding again for a goat!
Instead I'll just, i dunno, bolster my rat collection or something. I already hit the stat cap again...

You're saying that buying a goat is harder than Seeking? Ahahaha, way to encourage the potential breeders.

I know what you mean, though. I had to grind for the past few weeks for the same exact items because Mr Apples and his gambling buddies kept devouring my Yacht stakes. It eventually got to the point where seeing the login screen would spook me because I knew what agonies lay ahead if I dared to log in. (For anyone who's wondering, I failed 11 times before I won against him.)

The Overgoat fund is far more daunting. I'm thinking of alternating between Hunter's Keep, the Fidgeting Writer, and the Affair of the Box to keep me sane. I'll also play the occasional opportunity card to break the monotony. Weekly trips to the Nadir should also help. Nonstop repetitive grinding seems like a surefire way to turn a game into work -- unpaid work. I mean, unless you're into that sort of thing; then yay, go you!

Hmm. I have one goat and (barely) enough money to buy another... but if empry...heavenly stinky potion and two goats isn't the right thing, I'll be pennyless again. ( Well, I'll be pennyless even if it is right thing, but at least I get to have THE goat among goats. If it sin't I just get to have two the goat among goats. )

Take one for the team, pal. Stack those goats like Transformers. Or Power Rangers vehicles. Or...wow, none of those examples are of living animals. Maybe this isn't such a good idea, after all.

Empyrean Redolence is a very plausible requirement, though.

If that isn't how one obtains it, you could always sell the second Overgoat back for nearly 6000 echoes. Hardly penniless.

So far: No difference on Labrynth or Overgoat card, but will still search around Labrynth. I gussed that sending Overgaot's social action to Alexis might be the key, but Alexis promised no social action in this one, , so no idea yet.

Addition 1 : No difference on Labrynth or Overgoat card, but will still search around Labrynth. I thought about sending Overgaot's social action to Alexis, but Alexis promised no social action in this one, so no idea yet.

By the way, To quoth Ubergoat owner - "Clap your hands three times and believe in hidden branches."
Let's hope that "three time" isn't number of Overgoats. And if Labrynth is the key as I thought, there got to be no need for success on breeding luck roll.

Well the "blue-bordered storylet of interest" at my lodgings disappeared but it just turned up as an opportunity card. Wonder if this is a permanent or temporary thing.
